DETROIT LAKES, Minn. -- Longtime Detroit Lakes Police Sgt. Robert Strand, 40, has been charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct, brawling or fighting—after an off-duty run-in with a man at a Detroit Lakes bar. The man, Blake Sundvor, 35, of rural Detroit Lakes has been charged in Becker County District court with exactly the same thing.
AKELEY, Minn. --The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension said on Monday, Feb. 12, the investigation was still ongoing into the disappearance of a 27-year-old pregnant Akeley woman in north-central Minnesota. Authorities said they are concerned for Kara Blevins' welfare due to her medical condition and the cold weather. The Hubbard County Sheriff's Office has officially listed Blevins as a missing person.
PARK RAPIDS, Minn. — The Hubbard County Sheriff's Office has listed Kara Blevins, 27, as a missing person. Blevins, who is pregnant, was last seen walking along Howard Lake Road, Akeley, Minn., around 5 p.m. Feb. 2. She was wearing a winter coat, white scarf, no hat or gloves. She has blue eyes and her baby is due May 2018. Authorities believe she has no phone, car, money or extra clothing. Anyone with information may call the sheriff at (218) 732-3331.
DETROIT LAKES, Minn. – Authorities have released two of three people taken into custody in connection with a hit-and-run crash that left a 21-year-old Ponsford, Minn., man dead Thursday night, Feb. 8. According to information released by Becker County Sheriff Todd Glander:

WAHPETON, N.D. – A student reportedly died on a boarding school campus here earlier this week. The Circle of Nations School confirmed Wednesday, Feb. 7, that a 13-year-old girl was found dead at about 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6, according to Brian Watson, dean of students. "The Circle of Nations School community suffered a tragic loss,” read a statement provided by the school. “It's difficult for all of us to face the death of a young person.”
Duluth police have identified the woman who dropped off a severely wounded dog at a local veterinary clinic last week, and determined the circumstances of how the dog was injured. Police said a woman called the Duluth Animal Shelter on Wednesday morning to identify herself as the person who anonymously dropped off the dog at the Waters Edge Veterinary Clinic on Jan. 31. Authorities had issued a call Tuesday for information about the woman, in order to learn how the dog received its injuries.
PEMBINA, N.D.—An environmental activist who shut off an emergency valve on the TransCanada Keystone oil pipeline was sentenced Tuesday to spend one year in prison. Michael Eric Foster, 53, of Seattle, initially was charged with eight different crimes for his participation in the 2016 action that targeted a section of pipeline that runs through northeast North Dakota. Foster was joined on trial by co-defendant Samuel L. Jessup, of Winooski, Vt., a fellow "valve-turner" who livestreamed Foster's actions at the pipeline for viewing on the Internet.
WASHINGTON — Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz will be the keynote speaker at the National Prayer Breakfast dinner Thursday, Feb. 8. North Dakota Rep. Kevin Cramer made the announcement in an interview on KXJB-TV. Wentz, the former North Dakota State University star, will replace Vice President Mike Pence, who will be in Pyeongchang, South Korea, for the Olympic opening ceremonies.
