GRAND FORKS -- North Dakota is celebrating its gold medal Olympians in grand fashion.
FARGO -- Police here are investigating a homicide at an apartment building at the corner of Seventh Avenue North and 10th Street, Chief David Todd said. Todd said police have been at the building since 6:30 a.m. Friday, March 2. No other details were immediately available. The Fargo Police Department's critical incident command vehicle is at the scene, and the building is cordoned off with yellow crime scene tape.
GRAND FORKS -- Despite receiving normal snowfall, the risk of flooding in the spring remains low for the Red River Valley region, meteorologists said.
EMILY, Minn. -- A 52-year-old Crosslake man has died after he was found on his snowmobile on a trail near Emily in north-central Minnesota. The possible snowmobile crash was on a trail near Ruth Lake, north of the city of Emily, at about 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, according to Capt. Scott Goddard.
GRAND FORKS -- A thief who stole a popular white sauce from a popular Grand Forks restaurant has posted an apology online that has gone viral with 9,000 views as of Wednesday, Feb. 28. The video was the talk of the lunch rush at the restaurant. Customers said they don't blame the thief--they love the “white sauce,” too. "I'm really surprised that somebody brought it back,” said Red Pepper restaurant customer Shawn Bakken.
FERTILE, Minn. – A suspect in an early-morning high-speed chase that topped 100 mph was arrested after his vehicle went into a ditch in Norman County, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office reported Tuesday, Feb. 27. Aaron Dean Jagol, 27, of Fertile, was arrested and faces several charges in connection with the incident, which started about 2:45 a.m. Tuesday, according to the sheriff’s office report.
BRAINERD, Minn.—A 23-year-old Brainerd man was charged with attempted murder after allegedly poisoning a 4-month-old baby girl by feeding her antifreeze or de-icing fluids. Jeffrey Ryan Thomas appeared Monday in Crow Wing County District Court in Brainerd, where he was charged with first-degree attempted murder with premeditation, second-degree attempted murder without premeditation and first-degree assault to cause great bodily harm.
GRAND FORKS -- After a week of hints, it’s official -- Metallica is coming to the region. The band’s WorldWired Tour will play the Alerus Center in Grand Forks on Sept. 8, according to a news release. It’s been almost 30 years since the band played in the city. The heavy metal rock band will also have shows in Minneapolis on Sept. 4, Sioux Falls, S.D., on Sept. 11 and Winnipeg on Sept. 13.
WINGER, MINN.—A body was found after a deadly fire in Winger, Minn., on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 8:24 p.m. Crews responded to a fire at a shop at 18354 460th St. S.E. in rural Winger, according to a news release from the Polk County Sheriff's Office. Officials found two separate fires when they arrived, one in a shop and one in the residence above the address. After the fire was put out a body was discovered in the residence.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- The heavy metal band, Metallica, may be planning a performance in Grand Forks, if evidence on social media sites is any indication. The Alerus Center and the band shared the same image on their social media accounts recently. When he was reached for comment Friday, Feb. 23, Riley Simenson, marketing director at the Alerus Center, said, “I can’t confirm or deny that Metallica is going to come to Grand Forks.”
