GARFIELD, Minn. -- A Garfield man was arrested Wednesday after authorities seized more than 150 marijuana plants on his property. Earlier that day, a Douglas County sheriff's deputy was speaking with the suspect at his residence on North Park Street about an unrelated matter when the deputy smelled a strong odor of marijuana. He also noted other "drug precursors" that indicated a marijuana growing operation, according to the sheriff's office.
ST. PAUL -- Minnesota health and agriculture officials are investigating an outbreak of foodborne illness associated with alfalfa sprouts produced by Jack & The Green Sprouts of River Falls, Wis., and urged people not to eat the product. The state health department said there seven cases of E. coli O157 in Minnesota and two in Wisconsin in January and early February from the sprouts.
NEW ULM, Minn. -- A second species of invasive carp has been found in the Minnesota River. The Department of Natural Resources said Wednesday a commercial fishing operation caught a bighead carp near New Ulm, about 70 miles southwest of Minneapolis. This was the first bighead carp caught in the Minnesota River. A grass carp was caught in the same location in December.
ST. PAUL -- The Minnesota State Patrol on Tuesday released dashcam video footage showing a train striking a tractor-trailer west of Eveleth last month. The incident happened Jan. 20 at the railroad crossing where St. Louis County highways 7 and 101 meet, about 3 miles west of Eveleth. The Patrol reported that the crash happened moments after the truck pulled away from an inspection by State Patrol Sgt. Jeff Shay.
HEWITT, Minn. -- A Staples man is dead after his car rolled and hit a bridge pillar Saturday. Allen Howard, 61, died in the crash just after 9 a.m. Saturday near Hewitt in central Minnesota, the Minnesota Highway Patrol reported. Howard was driving a 2004 Dodge Intrepid east on Minnesota Highway 210 near U.S. Highway 71 when the car went off the right side of the road.

MINNEAPOLIS -- Minneapolis police have found a car they believe was involved in a fatal hit-and-run Tuesday night on the city’s north side. The suspect vehicle — described as a Ford Crown Victoria, possibly an old taxi — was found Wednesday morning by officers on routine patrol. Police are still looking for help finding the suspected driver.
