DULUTH -- Duluth police officer Richard LeDoux was on patrol in the eastern part of town Monday night when a passerby waved him over. The person wanted to report what appeared to be an injured owl on the roadway in the busy intersection of 21st Avenue East and Superior Street. "They thought it had maybe been hit by car," LeDoux told the Duluth News Tribune. But as LeDoux pulled up and prepared to call a local animal rescue organization, the barred owl jumped onto the hood of his squad car.

CROSBY—A 21-year-old Crosby man was killed Friday when his snowmobile catapulted through the air and collided with trees. The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office reported the crash occurred about 4:10 p.m. Friday on the 23000 block of County Highway 31. The victim, Brandon Harwig, 21, was traveling south in the ditch of County Highway 31 south of Cuyuna when he struck an approach and then trees. Harwig was riding with a friend, who found Harwig after the crash and called 911.
DEER CREEK, Minn. – A 2-year-old boy is the only survivor of a head-on car crash Sunday afternoon, Feb. 5, that killed two drivers near here in Otter Tail County, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. The boy, Mason Mousseau of Wadena, was hospitalized after the crash, but his injuries were not life-threatening, the patrol said.
OLIVIA—A Redwood Falls man died Monday morning, Feb. 6, in a head-on crash with a semi truck on U.S. Highway 71, south of Olivia. The crash closed a stretch of the highway for several hours and rerouted traffic. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Todd Michael Serbus, 46, had been driving north on the highway, near Renville County Road 4. Shortly before 5:30 a.m., his GMC Sierra collided with a southbound 2009 Mack semi truck, driven by Daryl Eugene Erickson, 56, of Willmar.
DEER CREEK, Minn. — Three people, including a 2-year-old boy, were involved in a fatal head-on car crash Sunday afternoon near here in Otter Tail County. The victims were a 2-year-old boy and a 31-year-old woman, both from Wadena, and a 63-year-old woman from Parkers Prairie, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. When contacted late Sunday, the Minnesota State Patrol would not say if more than one of those victims was injured or died until the investigation was complete.
DEVILS LAKE, N.D. — A man facing an attempted murder charge was at large Friday night after shooting at a state trooper, kidnapping a baby and crisscrossing northeast North Dakota in multiple stolen vehicles, authorities say. The North Dakota Highway Patrol and other agencies have been looking for 23-year-old Daniel Michael Two Hearts since late Thursday.
BISMARCK -- North Dakota lawmakers voted down a proposal to increase the speed limit on the state's highways Thursday, Feb. 2. House Bill 1184, introduced by Rep. Ben Koppelman, R-West Fargo, would have increased the speed limit on paved, two-lane highways from 65 mph to 70 mph, bumped the limit on divided multi-lane highways from 70 mph to 75 mph, and raised the interstate speed limit from 75 mph to 80 mph.
DAWSON, N.D. -- A 50-year-old Tappen man who authorities say fled after his pickup rolled and was struck by a semi truck on Interstate 94 was arrested near the crash site Monday, Jan. 30. James Dewey, the driver of a 2002 Ford Explorer, was transported to the Burleigh County Correctional Center after he was treated for minor injuries, the North Dakota Highway Patrol said in a news release.
BAUDETTE, Minn. -- Investigators have released the name of a Baudette man who was fatally hit by a car while he was kneeling in the middle of the road last weekend near Lake of the Woods.
