WILLMAR, Minn. -- A Willmar police officer was injured Monday morning after his squad car was hit by another vehicle that failed to stop at a red light. Officer Lukas Eitreim was transported to Rice Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries and later released. According to a news release from Willmar Police Captain Michael Anderson, a 2005 Ford passenger car failed to stop at a red light northbound on Lakeland Drive at the intersection of U.S. Highway 12.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- A Grafton man found dead on the railroad tracks near the Grand Forks Amtrak station Friday has been identified by the Grand Forks County Sheriff's Office as 50-year-old Jon Robert Engelland. Walsh County authorities notified Grand Forks law enforcement agencies about 10 a.m. Friday to be on the lookout for a 1995 Ford F-150 pickup driven by Engelland, but multiple units were unable to locate him for a welfare check, according to a news release.
Learning her 10-year-old daughter was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver left Ginnie Donovan with a "huge, gaping hole" in her chest. Donovan's daughter, Caylin Donovan, of Lake Park, Minn., had just finished school for the year and was helping out at an extended family member's lake place on the north shore of Mille Lacs Lake. It was just before 8 p.m. Friday. Caylin was at the edge of the home's driveway, trying to get reception on a cell phone, when she was hit by the passing vehicle, Donovan said.
WILLISTON, N.D. — Macy Christianson, Miss Grand Forks, won the title of Miss North Dakota 2016 Saturday at Williston High School. Christianson, whose talent was contemporary ballet, also won awards for most photogenic and most athletic, carries a platform of “You Decide the Road Ahead.”
FARGO—A West Fargo man faces theft charges for allegedly driving off without paying after putting on gas at the same Fargo convenience store more than a dozen times. All of the drive-offs occurred at the Little Duke's station near 13th Avenue and Interstate 29 in Fargo, and they happened between late April and late May, according to documents filed in Fargo Municipal Court.
MILTONA, Minn. -- One of the first drownings of the summer season in Minnesota’s lake country was reported Saturday when a man went overboard on Lake Miltona near Alexandria and drowned. The Douglas County Sheriff’s office said that about 4:30 p.m. the 911 call came in that the unidentified man hadn’t resurfaced after falling in. The location where the victim was last seen was marked by GPS and search efforts began by the sheriff’s dive team.
NISSWA, Minn.—A 52-year-old Little Falls man died Thursday following a report of a man who fell out of a tree on the 6000 block of East Pinewood Point in Nisswa.
BRAINERD, Minn. -- A 24-year-old man was in critical condition after being stabbed in downtown Brainerd Friday night.
AITKIN -- The Minnesota State Patrol is asking for the public's help locating a possible witness to a hit-and-run crash Friday night that killed an 11-year-old girl in Aitkin County. The girl was hit just before 8 p.m. while walking on Highway 18 near Mille Lacs Lake. Investigators would like to talk to the driver of a white Ford pickup pulling a white fifth-wheel camper with black trim who was in the area and may have witnessed the crash.
Extreme heat and the likelihood of severe weather developing on Friday will affect much of south-central and eastern Minnesota, as well as western Wisconsin. A heat advisory has been issued for this afternoon and evening for central and southern Minnesota. Heat indexes could exceed 100 degrees in these regions, the National Weather Service says. Thunderstorms are expected to develop in the afternoon, with a slight risk of large hail and damaging winds.
