MAHNOMEN, Minn. - Two people were found dead early Tuesday, Aug. 9, on a farmstead about 11 miles northeast of Mahnomen in northwest Minnesota, the Mahnomen County Sheriff’s Office reported. According to the sheriff’s office, dispatchers received a 911 call about 7:06 a.m. reporting a shooting at the residence. When officers arrived and searched the farmstead, they found a 75-year-old man dead in a Quonset building and a 71-year-old woman dead inside the home. Autopsies are being conducted.
COTTAGE GROVE, Minn. -- An Amery, Wis., man is dead following a one-vehicle crash Monday in Cottage Grove. The 61-year-old man appeared to have been in medical distress before his truck crashed into a tree at the intersection of Grange Boulevard and Grenadier Avenue near U.S. Highway 61, according to Cottage Grove police. The man’s name was being withheld pending notification of relatives, police said Tuesday morning. He was the only occupant in the truck.
APPLETON, Minn. -- A man who ran a stop sign overnight has died, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. Dalton E. Schmidt, 27, of Appleton, was killed last night in an automobile crash at Highway 12 and Highway 119 in Swift County, north of Appleton.
DILWORTH, Minn. -- The principal of the Glyndon-Felton Elementary School has been placed on administrative leave, Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton School District Superintendent Bryan Thygeson said Monday, Aug. 8.
ST. PAUL -- Gov. Mark Dayton and Lt. Gov. Tina Smith will have visited 10 counties, by week's end, on their quest to set foot in each of Minnesota's 87 counties. Their goal is to visit 87 counties in 86 days, ending travels on Oct. 25. One or the other visited three counties last week, and Dayton plans to visit northwest and northeast Minnesota this week. He plans to be in Marshall, Kittson and Roseau counties Tuesday, Lake of the Woods and Koochiching on Wednesday and St. Louis and Itasca on Thursday.
CLEARBROOK, Minn. — A Polk County Sheriff's deputy suffered injuries from breaking glass when a man fired at a helicopter the deputy was riding in Monday morning. Charges are pending against Carstie Lee Clausen of Clearbrook, who reportedly shot twice at the helicopter with a high-powered rifle.

BRAINERD, Minn. -- A Brainerd man died and a Little Falls man suffered serious injuries Thursday in a two-vehicle, head-on collision south of Brainerd. The Minnesota State Patrol reported a Dodge Stratus was northbound on Business Highway 371 and a GMC Sierra was southbound in the same area. The state patrol report the GMC crossed over the centerline striking the Stratus head-on in the northbound lane.
LEAD, S.D. – A Ramsey, Minnesota, man has been identified as the person who died in a motorcycle crash that occurred Thursday near Lead. Erick Johnson, 57, was driving a 2014 Honda RS motorcycle eastbound on South Dakota Highway 14A when he lost control. The motorcycle entered the ditch and the driver struck a sign. Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the only person involved in the crash and was not wearing a helmet.
MITCHELL, S.D. -- A Moorhead, Minnesota, man has been arrested after he allegedly entered a woman’s home and stabbed her ear with a pair of scissors. Eustace Miles, 48, of Moorhead, Minnesota, entered a residence on July 17 on South Miller Street in Mitchell and confronted a woman who was taking a shower inside, ultimately jabbing a pair of scissors into her ear, court documents state.
