WILLMAR, Minn. -- There are now 265,728 valid permit-holders for handguns in Minnesota, an increase of 59 percent over 2105, according to a news release from the Minnesota Department of Public Safety. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension report on Wednesday, March 1, said 71,156 permits were issued statewide in 2016, the highest number of permits issued in a single year since the current firearm laws were implemented in 2003. That’s up from 44,696 in 2015.
WILLMAR, Minn. – Police say a 38-year-old Cosmos man hit his estranged wife with his vehicle as she left her Willmar workplace Wednesday morning, abducted her and drove away from the area. The woman was found safe, but injured. The man is now in custody at the Kandiyohi County Jail in connection with the incident, facing kidnapping, second-degree assault, domestic assault and interfering with a 911 call charges.
AVON, Minn. -- A 53-year-old Avon man was killed when authorities said he jumped onto Interstate 94 and was struck by a semi truck Wednesday morning, March 1, near Avon, the Minnesota State Patrol said. The man, later identified as Lloyd Stuart Parker, walked from his parked 2015 Hyundai on County Road 9 and jumped from the overpass and into eastbound traffic shortly before 8 a.m., patrol said.
FREEPORT, Minn. — A Freeport man rescued Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 28, from a skid loader that was submerged in an abandoned manure pit has died. According to the Stearns County Sheriff's Office, Duane Herzog, 46, was operating a skid loader when it went through ice that was covering a manure pit on Herzog's farm site. The skid loader was completely submerged and Herzog was trapped inside for 20 minutes. Rescue personnel were able to rescue Herzog, who was transported by Life Link helicopter to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he later died.
The beginning to the match started as most wrestling matches do -- with a handshake. Both wrestlers in Pennsylvania took their starting poses, but then the 4-year-old boy -- the opponent of a older girl, who is 5 -- took off running. The girl was in hot pursuit, but as she completed the first lap, she raised her arms -- most likely to her coach -- like "What am I supposed to do?" Eventually, the referee blew the whistle and the wrestlers began wrestling -- at least until the little boy made his escape and made a run for it once again.
FARGO -- Police have identified a Fargo man who died Tuesday, Feb. 28, after he was pinned between two vehicles at a truck shop business in Fargo. The victim was identified as Nathan L. Martinson, 41. According to Fargo police, Martinson and a co-worker were working on a vehicle inside a garage at Custom Truck and Auto Shine when Martinson opened an overhead door and the co-worker assumed it was clear to back a vehicle out. The driver had limited visibility and didn’t notice that a vehicle was parked outside of the garage before Martinson was pinned.
ROCHESTER, Minn. -- United Airlines will begin service June 8 out the Rochester International Airport. The airline will operate three daily flights to and from its hub at Chicago O’Hare International Airport. “This service will provide 150 new departing seats per day, which is a capacity increase of 35 percent for our community” said John Reed, Rochester International’s executive director.
WILLMAR, Minn. – An 8-month-old child was found safe over the weekend after law enforcement received a call about a possible child abduction. The investigation is still ongoing, and a suspect is being held in the Kandiyohi County Jail on charges of kidnapping.
A 23-year-old Grand Rapids woman pleaded guilty Friday, Feb. 24 in Itasca County District Court in the stabbing and beheading death of a Hibbing man last June . In exchange for a guilty plea and her future testimony, Kayleene Danielle Greniger avoided facing trial on a first-degree murder charge, which comes with the potential for life in prison.
