June 6, 1946-Jan. 19, 2008 Paul B. Sukke, 61, of Detroit Lakes, died Saturday, January 19, 2008 at Innovis Hospital in Fargo. Paul Bernard Sukke was born to Wayne and Angeline (Sulier) Sukke on June 6, 1946 in Benson, Minn. He was a 1964 graduate of Benson High School, where he was active in music and sports. In 1968, Paul graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead with a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics. He married Madalyn Conger in 1967 in Moorhead. He joined the U.S.
Feb. 4, 1963-Jan. 18, 2008 Ruth A. Hedstrom Glessing, 44, of Audubon, died Friday January 18, 2008 at her residence. Ruth A. Glessing was born to Raymond and Marilyn (Stromme) Hedstrom on Feb. 4, 1963 in Detroit Lakes, where she grew up and attended school, graduating from Detroit Lakes High School in 1981. She then attended cosmetology school in Wadena. On May 11, 1985 she married Terry Glessing in Detroit Lakes. They made their home in rural Audubon. Ruth worked for Beauty Lane in Detroit Lakes for 10 years. She was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes.
May 12, 1914-Jan. 16, 2008 Former Detroit Lakes resident Mary E. Voracek, 93, of Moline, Ill., died Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at the Frazee Care Center, Frazee. Mary Elsie Hustak was born May 12, 1914 in Onamia, Minn. She attended and graduated from the Onamia schools. Mary moved to Fargo and married Frank Voracek in 1934. She worked at Herbst Department Store and Royal Jewelers in Fargo. She retired to Detroit Lakes in 1973. Frank died in 1979, and Mary moved to Moline in 2003. Mary spent the winters in Arizona and Hawaii, summering in Detroit Lakes.
March 1, 1920-Jan. 16, 2008 Signe V. Hanson, 87, of Audubon, died Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at St. Mary's Nursing Center in Detroit Lakes, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Signe was born to Ole and Thea (Elton) Moe on March 1, 1920 in Hamden Township. She attended school through the eighth grade, at District 34 Country School. On Feb. 29, 1944, she married LeRoy Hanson in Audubon. Together they made their home on a farm north of Audubon. LeRoy passed away in the summer of 1975, and Signe continued to live on the family farm until becoming a resident of St.
March 5, 1918-Jan. 16, 2008 Charles B. Potter, 89, of White Earth, died Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at his home. Charles Bernard Potter was born to Joseph and Sarah (Mason) Potter on March 5, 1918 in White Earth, where he was raised and educated. He served with the U.S. Army, 1941-45, and was a highly decorated soldier. He received three Bronze Stars, two Purple Hearts and numerous other decorations. While in the Army, he also learned the meat cutting trade.
Oct. 28, 1913-Jan. 16, 2008 Former Strawberry Lake resident Helen E. Nygard, 94, of Moorhead, died Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at Innovis Hospital in Fargo. Helen Elizabeth Koski was born to Kalle and Lizzie (Oorni) Koski on Oct. 28, 1913, in St. Louis County, Minn. She attended country school in Becker County and later helped her family on the farm. On July 1, 1936 she married Karl Nygard, and they made their home in Strawberry Lake. Helen was a homemaker; she wove rugs and raised chickens while Karl was away testing dairy cattle.
