An inurnment and gathering of friends for Christopher R. Edwards, who died on Monday, April 21, 2008, is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct.
June 7, 1921-Sept. 19, 2008 White Earth native Maxine M. Kjorsvik, 87, of Concrete, Wash., died Friday, September 19, 2008 at the Providence Hospital in Everett, Wash. Maxine Mildred Hodder was born to George and Madeline (Fairbanks) Hodder on June 7, 1921 in White Earth. Maxine was a resident of Seattle, Wash., for many years, operating numerous restaurants throughout the area. In 1964, she married Kenneth Kjorsvik in Seattle, and they moved to the Cape Horn area near Concrete, Wash., where she resided for 35 years.
June 22, 1919-Sept. 19, 2008 Former Detroit Lakes resident Robert N. Swanson, 89, of Austin, Minn., died Friday, September 19, 2008 at Fieldcrest Care Center in Hayfield, Minn. Robert Neil Swanson was born to John and Sannie (Trowbridge) Swanson on June 22, 1919 in Otter Tail County. He married Sara Saumweber on Dec. 31, 1944 in Fargo. Robert attended St. Paul Bible Institute and became an ordained pastor. He also worked in the U.S. Postal Service. Robert and Sara made their home in Detroit Lakes, where Robert was pastor of First Baptist Church from 1952 through 1965.
Aug. 4, 1955-Sept. 20, 2008 Glen W. Madson, 53, of Lake Park, died unexpectedly Saturday, September 20, 2008, in St. Mary's Innovis Health, Detroit Lakes. Glen was born to J. Donald and Alice (Larson) Madson on Aug. 4, 1955, in Detroit Lakes. He grew up and attended school in Lake Park, graduating from Lake Park High School. Following high school, he moved to Colorado for a brief time before moving back to Lake Park. On July 2, 1983, Glen married Pam Hanson in Lake Park. He enjoyed working for Aggregate Industries for the past 33 years.
Sept. 28, 1925-Sept. 19, 2008 Esther M. Goodman, 82, of Mahnomen, died Friday, September 19, 2008 at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo. Esther Marie Ahbedaush was born to Charles and Alice (Northup) Ahbedaush on Sept. 28, 1925 in Twin Lakes Township, near Mahnomen. She attended rural Mahnomen County Schools and the Indian School in Flandreau, S.D. She lived in Minneapolis prior to returning to the White Earth area. Esther married Joseph Goodman on June 21, 1952 in Park Rapids. She worked for the Ah Gwah Ching Sanatorium at Walker, Minn., for a number of years.
Aug. 28, 1928-Sept. 20, 2008 Marvin L. Andrews, 80, of Detroit Lakes, died Saturday, September 20, 2008 at his home, under the care of Hospice of The Red River Valley. Marvin Lloyd Andrews was born to John and Rose (Rixe) Andrews on Aug. 28, 1928 in Johnson, Minn. He was raised and educated at Graceville, Minn. Following graduation from Graceville High School, he was employed by the First State Bank of Graceville. Marvin served with the U. S. Army in Korea, 1950-52. Following his discharge, he worked for the Vergas State Bank, 1952-56. Marvin married Lorraine Bickel Torson on Jan.
Dec. 30, 1947-Sept. 17, 2008 Gail E. Paulson, 60, of Detroit Lakes, died Wednesday, September 17, 2008 in a motor vehicle accident with her father, Robert Brolin, that occurred near Detroit Lakes. Gail E. Brolin was born to Robert and Ariel (DeWitt) Brolin on Dec. 30, 1947 in Detroit Lakes, where she grew up and attended school, graduating from Detroit Lakes High School. She moved to Fargo and attended business school, before moving to the Twin Cities and working for Norwest Banks. She worked for Norwest Banks for 36 years, retiring in 2004.
Funeral services for Lake Park native Hazel Haugen of Albuquerque, N.M., are scheduled to take place at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, in Eksjo Lutheran Church, Lake Park. A lunch will be served at the church following services. Hazel was the wife of Wilbur Haugen and sister to Gordon Lester Norris and Esther Nelson.
April 29, 1920-Sept. 17, 2008 Robert L. Brolin, 88, of Detroit Lakes, died Wednesday, September 17, 2008 in a motor vehicle accident with his daughter, Gail Paulson, that occurred near Detroit Lakes. Robert L. Brolin was born to Oscar and Mildred (Shores) Brolin on April 29, 1920 in Williams, Minn. The family moved to rural Detroit Lakes, where Robert grew up and attended country school. On May 5, 1940 he married Ariel DeWitt. They made their home near Lake Melissa, in rural Detroit Lakes.
Dec. 4, 1920-Sept. 17, 2008 Margaret E. Holtgrewe, 87, of Frazee, died Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at the Frazee Care Center in Frazee. Margaret E. Quinlan was born to Joseph and Ione Caye Quinlan on Dec. 4, 1920 in Richwood. She grew up near Richwood and attended country school there. In 1937 she married Melvin Wilson in Detroit Lakes. They made their home in the Rochert area, and later moved into Detroit Lakes. Melvin died in 1959. In 1964, Margaret married Bernard Holtgrewe. They lived in Moorhead for six years before moving to rural Detroit Lakes. Bernard died in 2001.
