BEMIDJI -- "Terminal," a full-length suspense story by Brian Keene and Roy C. Booth -- based on the novel of the same name by Brian Keene -- makes its debut this Friday, Feb. 27 at the Paul Bunyan Playhouse in Bemidji. Brian Keene is a two time Bram Stoker Award winner based out of Pennsylvania, with two dozen books in print -- five of which have been optioned for film. The book Terminal is now in its third printing from Bantam Spectra and is presently being made into a full-length feature film by Nimble Pictures. Roy C.
Russell Buhaug, 91, of Lake Park, died Saturday, February 7, 2009 at Sunnyside Nursing Home in Lake Park. Funeral arrangements are pending with Wright Funeral Home in Lake Park. Condolences may be left online at www.wrightfuneral.com .
A Bagley man is in stable condition and another Bagley man was arrested after a stabbing late Wednesday evening in Mahnomen County. Daniel Paul Loftus, 29, was treated for a stab wound at the Mahnomen Health Care Center, later transferred to MeritCare hospital in Fargo for surgery, and was listed in stable condition Thursday afternoon, according to the Mahnomen County Sheriff's Department. David Michael Hare, 24, was arrested following the stabbing, which was reported about 11:48 p.m.
Tambra Ann Laws, 50, of Box 334, Bagley has been charged in Becker County District Court with two felony counts of fifth-degree controlled substance crime - possession, and two gross misdemeanor third-degree DWI charges. According to court records: On July 17 a trooper on Highway 59 allegedly observed her driving erratically after receiving a complaint from another motorist. Her blood alcohol level allegedly tested at .11 percent, and she had a number of pills in her possession, both prescription and non-prescription. Samantha Dionne Zornes, 33, of 611 Third Street N.W., Bemidji has been charged in Becker County District Court with felony second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and felony terroristic threats. According to court records: On Sunday, she allegedly picked up a pair of scissors from a desk during an argument with her boyfriend at a residence in White Earth. She allegedly came after him with the scissors, and he blocked the strike with his arm.
Nov. 11, 1931-Nov. 4, 2008 James F. Knapp, M.D., 76, of Detroit Lakes, died Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. James Frederic Knapp was born to Wesley H. and Vina (Fredericksen) Knapp on Nov. 11, 1931 in Tyler, MN. He was raised and educated in Tyler where he graduated from high school in 1951. He was a 1956 cum laude graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn., and a 1960 graduate of the University Of Minnesota School Of Medicine in Minneapolis. James married Joann Gould in June 1957 in Roseville, Minn.
Nov. 30, 1949-Sept. 22, 2008 Steven J. Goodrich, 58, of Audubon, died Monday, September 22, 2008 at his home in Audubon. Steven was born the son of Kenneth and Patricia (Blount) Goodrich on Nov. 30, 1949 in Oakes, North Dakota. He was raised and educated in Fullerton, North Dakota. After graduating high school, he entered the United States Air Force in 1969. While in the military, Steve was a crew chief on the United States Air Force General's plane, which traveled around the world. He retired as the Master Sergeant after twenty years of service.
June 19, 1927-Sept. 20, 2008 Howard E. Tyberg, 81, of Detroit Lakes, died Saturday, September 20, 2008 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, after a long struggle with cancer. Howard E. Tyberg was born to August and Effylen (Mickelson) Tyberg on June 19, 1927 in Elbow Lake, Minn. He graduated from Elbow Lake High School in 1945. Howard enlisted in the U.S. Navy while in high school, and was stationed at Great Lakes, Ill., during World War II. He graduated from Mankato (Minn.) State University in 1950, with degrees in math and industrial education. On Sept.

Jan. 31, 1920-Sept. 23, 2008 Evelyn E. Ponto, 88, of Frazee, died in her home on Tuesday, September 23, 2008. Evelyn Esther Zitzow was born to Richard and Mary (Loebrick) Zitzow on Jan. 31, 1920 in Luce, Minn. She was baptized and confirmed on June 17, 1934, at Vergas Lutheran Church. Evelyn was raised and educated in rural Vergas where she attended country school. On April 18, 1939, Evelyn married Norman Ponto in Perham. After they married, the couple moved to Frazee, where Norman worked for the elevator and Evelyn worked for Swift Turkey Plant.
