BEMIDJI -- Dwight Jones and Cory Jones made their initial appearances Monday in Beltrami County District Court since their involvement in a recent shooting incident near Cass Lake. Dwight Thomas Jones, 37, and Cory J. Walter Jones, 26, both of Cass Lake, were identified by a witness as shooting and assaulting two men from White Earth on Sept.
WALKER -- A Walker man was sentenced for his part in breaking into a Hackensack liquor store in June. Curtis Eugene Hoffman III, 22, was convicted Sept. 29 in Cass County District Court of felony third-degree burglary. Hoffman has been sentenced to 90 days local confinement in the Cass County Jail, of which 57 days is stayed for five years. Hoffman has been credited with 33 days served. A warrant was issued for Hoffman's arrest after failing to appear at a hearing Aug. 18.
HUBBARD COUNTY -- Two men arrested in connection with copper theft and damage to the former Ainsworth Plant in Hubbard County have plead guilty to burglary charges. Roderick John Goose, 47, of Walker, and Jeffrey Allen Goose, 28, of Cass Lake, were each charged with two counts of felony theft, one count of felony third-degree burglary and two counts of felony first-degree damage to property. Both men pleaded guilty to the burglary charge Sept.
WALKER -- One of two men involved in a stabbing in Cass Lake in August pleaded not guilty Wednesday to all charges in Cass County Court. Sheldon James Armstrong III, 22, of Cass Lake is charged with felony charges of first-degree attempted murder, kidnapping, second-degree assault and theft after he and an accomplice allegedly assaulted and stabbed a victim and attempted to drive him over with his own truck. Armstrong's next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 20. Armstrong's accomplice, Travis Richard Paquette, 18, of Bemidji, faces identical charges.
INTERNATIONAL FALLS -- Two people arrested in connection with 11 burglaries in six communities have been sentenced in Koochiching County Court. Brandon George Howard Sr., 34, of Redby, and Holly Beth Johnson, 30, of Redwood Falls, were arrested in July by Red Lake Tribal Police. The two were suspected in burglaries that occurred at seasonal cabins and unoccupied residences in Roosevelt, Benville, Shooks, Spruce, Minnie and Bemidji Townships. Howard was convicted Sept. 29 of felony second-degree burglary. He was sentenced to 28 months in the Minnesota Correctional Facility in St.
Sheriff's Report The Beltrami County Sheriff's Office responded to the following calls on Friday: DWI 1:09 a.m. A 24-year-old man was arrested for DWI following a traffic stop for a suspicious vehicle on Miles Ave. SE. Drugs 2:24 p.m. A 27-year-old man was arrested for fifth-degree controlled substance after a marijuana grow search warrant was executed on the 1600 block of Pamela Court NW. Thirty-three mature growing plants were found along with additional pounds of marijuana seized. 2:37 p.m.
BEMIDJI -- A Red Lake woman has been sentenced to serve 15 days in jail for causing a crash that injured a passenger in June. Melvina Rose May, 49, was convicted Sept. 30 in Beltrami County District Court of criminal vehicular operation of a motor vehicle with an alcohol concentration of 0.08 or more. May's blood alcohol level was 0.184 when she rolled her Ford F150 on Highway 89 south of Scribner Road Northwest in June. A passenger in May's vehicle was injured in the accident. May was sentenced to 365 days in the Beltrami County Jail, of which 350 days are stayed for three years.

BEMIDJI -- A Laporte man has been convicted of criminal sexual conduct following an incident that occurred in Bemidji in February. William James Francisco, 22, was originally charged with third-degree criminal sexual conduct, a felony level offense. Francisco plead guilty to a fifth-degree charge, a gross misdemeanor, in Beltrami County District Court in July. He was sentenced Sept.
