RED LAKE -- Red Lake Tribal Police arrested a man from Illinois on Tuesday for possession of heroin on the Red Lake Indian Reservation. David Contrell McClure, 22, of Naperville, Ill., had 40 grams of heroin in his possession when officers executed a search warrant at a Little Rock residence Tuesday morning. Officers were searching for narcotics and narcotic trafficking, according to a criminal complaint. Red Lake officers located McClure in a bedroom attempting to hide several micro-baggies containing a large amount of heroin.

Sheriff's Report The Beltrami County Sheriff's Office responded to the following calls on Tuesday: Drugs 1:16 a.m. A 23-year-old man and a 22-year-old man were arrested on Highway 89 NW by Red Lake Police Department as a result of a drug search warrant conducted on the reservation. Subjects were transported by Beltrami deputies to Beltrami County Jail. Assist 10:37 a.m.

RED LAKE -- A warrant has been issued for a man arrested in Red Lake earlier this month for heroin possession. Christopher Erving Peoples, 33, was arrested Oct. 3 and charged with felony fifth-degree possession of heroin. Peoples failed to appear at a hearing in Beltrami County District Court on Monday. On Oct. 3, Peoples was located in a basement of a residence on the 23300 block of Highway 1 in Red Lake, where officers found a digital scale, a micro bag of a brown substance believed to be heroin and numerous drug paraphernalia items.
BEMIDJI -- A Bemidji man plead guilty Thursday to felony drug sale. Shawn Elston Jackson, 47, is the first in a group of four people arrested for first-degree sale of methamphetamine to plead guilty in Beltrami County District Court. Jackson was arrested in June after Paul Bunyan Drug Task Force narcotics agents conducted multiple search warrants and seized a large amount of cash, vehicles and other evidence in Puposky, Minn.
BEMIDJI -- A Bemidji man received a 25 year prison sentence for sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl in 2013. Jeremy Bruce Cournoyer, 34, was sentenced Monday in Beltrami County District Court for felony first-degree criminal sexual conduct to 300 months in the Minnesota Correctional Facility in St. Cloud with 99 years conditional release after confinement. Cournoyer faced a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison and a $40,000 fine. Cournoyer plead not guilty to the charge Oct. 25, 2013 and was found guilty by the court June 17.
