BEMIDJI -- In 2014, a spotlight shone on alcohol consumption and college life in Bemidji. A 20-year-old BSU nursing student died from exposure Dec. 10 after leaving a house party at about 2 a.m.
BEMIDJI -- Three Bemidji men have been arraigned in Beltrami County District Court facing felony charges following a BB gun spree through Bemidji last weekend. Carl John Pederson, 18, Jaylen Jamal Ingalls, 19, and Christian Joseph Schulke, 19, were booked into the Beltrami County Jail on Dec. 28. The Bemidji Police Department received approximately 20 property damage calls from the evening of Dec. 27 to the morning of Dec. 29. Sheriff's Report The Beltrami County Sheriff's Office responded to the following calls on Wednesday: Accident 9:51 a.m. Dog vs. car accident on Bemidji Road NE and Brian Court NE in Northern. Animal was recovered by owner, no visible damage done to vehicle. Warrant 1:03 a.m. A 47-year-old man was arrested on a warrant on the 700 block of Lincoln Ave. SE. 9:01 a.m. A 43-year-old man was arrested on a warrant on the 600 block of Minnesota Ave. NW. 10:01 a.m.
RED LAKE -- A man arrested in Red Lake for heroin possession in October has entered a guilty plea in Beltrami County District Court. Christopher Erving Peoples, 33, was located in a basement of a Red Lake residence on Oct. 3, where officers found a digital scale, a micro bag of a brown substance and numerous drug paraphernalia items. A brown powdery substance in the kitchen of the home field-tested positive for heroin. Peoples pleaded guilty to felony fifth-degree possession of heroin Dec. 22. He is scheduled for sentencing on Feb. 2.

BEMIDJI -- In Bemidji, Beltrami County and throughout Minnesota, law enforcement is urging people to make responsible decisions when planning New Year's Eve celebrations tonight. Sgt. Jesse Grabow with the Minnesota State Patrol said troopers throughout Minnesota will be looking for impaired drivers on the road this New Year's Eve. Both the Bemidji Police Department and Beltrami County Sheriff's Office will have normal enforcement efforts in place.
Sheriff's Report The Beltrami County Sheriff's Office responded to the following calls on Monday: Weapons 12:12 a.m. A 20-year-old man, three 19-year-old men and an 18-year-old man were arrested following a home invasion/robbery call with shots fired on the 200 block of Dewey Ave. SW in Wilton. Three parties were arrested for fifth-degree controlled substance-sale of marijuana. DWI 12:23 a.m.

BEMIDJI -- A Duluth man accused of attempting to burglarize a Solway home in August has entered a guilty plea in Beltrami County District Court. Marcus Woundedeye, 36, of Duluth is charged with felony first-degree attempted burglary of an occupied dwelling. On Aug. 19, a woman reported someone trying to break into her home just after 1 a.m. A K-9 unit followed a blood trail leading law enforcement from the scene to Woundedeye who was found hiding in a Honda Civic. First-degree attempted burglary carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $35,000 fine.
