BEMIDJI -- A Bemidji man charged with felony assault on an 8-week-old baby boy in July plead not guilty Tuesday in Beltrami County District Court. Donny Lee Carlsen, 38, was arrested July 8 after law enforcement served him with an arrest warrant for allegedly inflicting injuries on his 8-week-old son two days earlier. The child was life-flighted to Sanford Medical Center in Fargo where it was determined he suffered brain injuries.Carlsen is accused of striking the infant in the face, shaking the baby and then dropping him while attempting to answer his cellphone.
BEMIDJI -- A Bemidji woman appeared in Beltrami County District Court on Tuesday facing a felony charge after allegedly using a stun gun on another woman outside a local pharmacy. Jessica Marie Hughes, 21, is charged with use of a stun gun while not defending self or property after she used an "electronic incapacitation device" to assault a woman, according to court documents. Use of a stun gun when not defending yourself or property carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. A female victim called Bemidji police at approximately 10 p.m. on Oct. 24.
