CASS LAKE -- Many people are timidly stepping on bathroom scales in the privacy of their own homes, waiting for the scale to settle on a final verdict, peeking at the pounds sticking around after the holidays. But some brave folks have opted not to keep it a secret, but stand on a scale in a public forum to challenge those stubborn pounds. Contestants in the sixth Leech Lake's Biggest Loser Challenge, dubbed "Leech Lake's All New Biggest Loser Challenge," have hit the halfway point in the first challenge of 2015.
BEMIDJI -- A Cass Lake man pleaded not guilty Monday in Beltrami County District Court to a felony aiding and abetting aggravated robbery charge. Brandon James Madigan, 18, was arrested with Robin Lee Lussier, 26, of Bemidji and Shelby Gene Boswell, 23, of St. Paul after the three were accused of assaulting and robbing a man in January. Madigan is charged with second-degree aiding and abetting aggravated robbery. His next court appearance is scheduled for March 17. Lussier pleaded not guilty to second-degree aggravated robbery Jan. 26.
BEMIDJI -- A Redby man connected to burglaries in six communities in Beltrami and Koochiching counties was sentenced Monday in Beltrami County District Court to seven years in prison on two felony burglary charges. Brandon George Howard Sr., 36, was sentenced to 88 months in the Minnesota Correctional Facility in St. Cloud for first-degree burglary. A concurrent 43 month sentence was given for a second-degree burglary charge. Howard has been credited with 154 days time served.

BEMIDJI -- A Duluth man was sentenced in Beltrami County District Court on Monday for an attempted burglary of a Solway residence in August. Marcus Woundedeye, 36, was sentenced to 252 days in the Beltrami County Jail for a felony first-degree burglary charge. A prison sentence of 13 months, 15 days was stayed for 10 years. Woundedeye has been placed on 10 years supervised probation. He has been credited with 168 days time served. On Aug. 19, a Solway woman reported someone trying to break into her home just after 1 a.m.
BEMIDJI -- A Bemidji man arrested with 33 mature marijuana plants and a large quantity of psilocybin mushrooms in October was sentenced Monday to 180 days in the Beltrami County Jail. A year and a day prison sentence was stayed for five years. Andrew Joseph Haman, 27, was arrested Oct. 3 at his Grant Valley Township residence after a search warrant revealed marijuana plants, additional pounds of marijuana, mushrooms and evidence of drug processing and packaging inside the house on the 1600 block of Pamela Court Northwest. Haman pleaded not guilty to felony fifth-degree drug possession Oct.
