BEMIDJI -- Bemidji firefighters responded to a report of an explosion Monday night at a residence southwest of Bemidji near the Grant Valley Township line. The Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office issued a preliminary release Monday night that included a caller at 5:49 p.m. reporting a house on Buchanan Ave. SW had exploded and smoke was coming from the residence.
WALKER -- A Bemidji man pleaded guilty in Cass County Court to felony assault and robbery for his involvement in the August stabbing and kidnapping of a man in Cass Lake. Travis Richard Paquette, 18, pleaded guilty to first-degree assault and simple robbery on Jan. 16. Paquette was arrested Aug. 1 for felony first-degree attempted murder, kidnapping, second-degree assault and theft of a motor vehicle. Paquette and an accomplice, Sheldon James Armstrong III, 22, of Cass Lake, are accused of assaulting and stabbing a victim and attempting to drive him over with his own truck.

BEMIDJI -- A Bemidji man charged with felony assault entered a guilty plea Tuesday in Beltrami County District Court. Jonathan Garrick Beaulieu, 19, is accused of stabbing a man in Bemidji on Sept. 20 after a woman asked him to commit the act. Beaulieu is charged with felony second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon. The charge carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine. Beaulieu is being held in the Beltrami County Jail on $20,000 conditional bail. Sentencing has been set for Feb. 9 in Beltrami County District Court.

BEMIDJI -- A Bemidji woman will spend less than two weeks in jail for aiding an offender who was involved in an assault in September. Ashley Ann Melberg, 20, was sentenced Tuesday in Beltrami County District Court to 12 days in the Beltrami County Jail for a felony aiding an offender charge. Melberg was credited with eight days time served and placed on supervised probation for four years. Melbert must pay a $250 fine. Aiding an offender carries a maximum penalty of three years in prison and a $5,000 fine. Melberg was arrested Sept.
