BENA—Members of the Bug-O-Nay-Ge-Shig school board and staff were pleased to see their school's name on a Congressional letter of support to the U.S. Department of the Interior at Thursday's school board meeting. Interim Superintendent and Special Education Coordinator Pam Walker distributed a letter signed by U.S. Sens. Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken and Reps. John Kline, Tim Walz, Erik Paulsen, Betty McCollum, Keith Ellison, Tom Emmer, Collin Peterson and Rick Nolan stating they will be monitoring progress on the department's updating of a school replacement list from 2004.

Police Report The Bemidji Police Department responded to the following calls Wednesday. Assault 4:36 a.m. A 30-year-old man was arrested for domestic assault on the 600 block of 20th Street NW. Drugs 9:09 p.m. A 31-year-old man was arrested for drug charges following a traffic stop on the 800 block of 20th Street NW.
BEMIDJI—Sixteen homeless people will have a warm place to sleep this winter in Bemidji in a place that didn't exist last year. In a 4-to-1 vote, the Greater Bemidji Joint Planning Board passed a motion Wednesday to approve an interim use permit and variance for a downtown homeless shelter. The proposed shelter would be located at the site of the Headwaters Unitarian Universalist Fellowship's church at Sixth Street and America Avenue. The church is in the process of relocating. The shelter will be open overnight during cold weather months, from October to April.

DWI 8:32 p.m. A 30-year-old man was arrested for DWI, possession of a controlled substance and child endangerment after he was reported driving through a yard on the 400 block of Adams Ave.

BEMIDJI—A Fargo man is in Beltrami County Jail facing sex trafficking charges after his arrest in late July. A hearing was held Monday in Beltrami County District Court for Kyaree Baron Stone. Stone, 25, was arrested July 23 after a Bemidji police investigator was alerted to an advertisement for a female escort in the Bemidji area the previous day, according to court documents. Stone was identified as the man who drives the escort to her "dates." Stone is charged with felony promoting prostitution of an individual.
BEMIDJI—A Bemidji man pleaded guilty in Beltrami County District Court to burglarizing a home while the owner was sleeping in July. Jered James Conkle, 19, was arrested July 19 after Bemidji Police tracked his footprints leaving the scene of a burglary on the 900 block of Minnesota Avenue Northwest. Conkle was arrested on a felony second-degree burglary charge and misdemeanor underage consumption. He pleaded guilty to the burglary charge Aug. 3. According to a statement of probable cause, officers responded to a call at approximately 6:15 a.m.
