BELTRAMI COUNTY -- The final of four people from Cass Lake arrested for kidnapping and assaulting two people in March has been sentenced in Beltrami County District Court. Methamphetamine was a factor in the incident. John Jacob White, 25, was found guilty and convicted of two counts of kidnapping on Nov. 25. White has been sentenced to 54 months in the Minnesota Correctional Facility in St. Cloud for the first count which is stayed for 20 years.
BEMIDJI -- A former BSU football player accused of sexually assaulting a woman in February was found not guilty by a jury on Thursday in Beltrami County District Court. Trial proceedings began Dec. 1. Joshua Riley Malone, 20, of Gordon, Wis., faced a felony third-degree criminal sexual conduct charge for allegedly having sex with an unconscious victim at a house party on Feb. 21. Malone pleaded not guilty to the charge in July. According to court documents, the victim reportedly became highly intoxicated at the party and woke up in Malone's bed.

BEMIDJI -- Archers were on target Saturday at the "Shoot for the Cure" event hosted by the Bemidji Archery Club at the Beltrami County Fairgrounds. Funds and awareness were raised in the battle against breast cancer. Bemidji Archery Club member Holly Malm helped organize the benefit, which was held in collaboration between Roger Ekert of Minnesota State Archery Association and Julene Hakl of Minnesota Archers Alliance to help fund treatments and cures for breast cancer.
BEMIDJI -- A Bemidji man charged with felony possession of pornography entered a guilty plea in Beltrami County District Court on Monday. Max Arnett Lussier, 55, was arrested in October after images of children engaged in sexual acts were traced to his computer IP address. He is charged with one count of possession of pornographic work involving minors. During execution of a search warrant, Lussier told law enforcement they would find the information they were looking for on one of three computers in his apartment.
BEMIDJI -- A Michigan man arrested with three loaded handguns and 11 pounds of marijuana on Highway 2 near Bemidji will see no jail time. Richard Jay Barbour, 62, of Spring Lake, Mich., was charged with felony fifth-degree controlled substance when he was found to be in possession of marijuana during a traffic stop in August. A Minnesota State Trooper pulled Barbour over for going 84 mph in a 65 mph zone on Highway 2.
BELTRAMI COUNTY -- Attorneys for Beltrami County and Beltrami County Sheriff's Office staff have filed a response to a lawsuit that an inmate was inappropriately treated by jail staff. The response, in short, is that the county and staff were not negligent, nor did they act deliberately indifferent to Theran Stai's rights. The response was filed Nov. 26 in U.S.
