BEMIDJI—A Cass Lake man recently entered not guilty pleas to two counts of criminal sexual conduct in Beltrami County District Court. Lance Kingbird, 47, was charged with three counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct after he was accused of sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl in October. Kingbird pleaded not guilty to two of the charges June 29. He entered a not guilty plea to the other count Dec. 8. First-degree criminal sexual conduct involving penetration or contact with a person under the age of 13 carries a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison and a $40,000 fine.
CASS LAKE—A warrant has been issued for a Cass Lake man who faces 14 felony charges after he allegedly barricaded himself and a female hostage inside a Cass County residence in August. Christopher Harrison Morris, 32, was taken into custody Aug. 20 by the Cass County Sheriff's Office after a lengthy negotiation, according to a release from the Cass County Sheriff's Office, which named Morris as Christopher Morris-Headbird.

BEMIDJI—Comedians Rob Fairbanks, aka the Rez Reporter, and Jon "Jonny R" Roberts decided one day in May they were going to be famous. Fairbanks and Roberts have since collaborated with filmmakers to begin production of "Rez Comedy." If their Kickstarter project receives full funding, $20,000, by July 14, the twosome and a crew of three others will embark on a five-man funky-fresh tour toward Tinseltown. WALKER—One of two Pine River men arrested after ATV tracks led authorities to a series of burglaries in the Lake Ada area has pleaded guilty to receiving stolen property. Dean Benedict, 38, was arrested after a search warrant was executed by the Cass County Sheriff's Office at his residence and stolen property was found. Benedict's arrest came after Richard Roubal, 28, was found at a seasonal residence in Ponto Lake Township with a stolen ATV in February. Roubal's arrest led authorities to Benedict. Benedict pleaded guilty in Cass County District Court June 18.
