BEMIDJI -- What started out as a grant to improve healthy choices at the Bemidji Community Food Shelf has become a 22-page cookbook containing dozens of recipes and detailed information about nutrition. One thousand copies of the Bemidji Community Food Shelf Healthy Choices Recipes book were printed, of which about 600 are being given out to food shelf clients.
BEMIDJI -- The serious injury of an infant associated with labor or delivery in a low-risk pregnancy was one of three "adverse health events" that occurred at Sanford Bemidji Medical Center in 2014. The state Department of Health on Thursday released its annual Adverse Health Events in Minnesota report, which covers events that occurred from Oct. 7, 2013, to Oct. 6, 2014.
BEMIDJI -- Two members of the Bemidji State University faculty walked outside along the perimeter of campus on Wednesday as they participated in National Adjunct Walkout Day, a grassroots effort advocating for better pay for adjunct faculty members. Sylvia Olney and Janet Moen, both adjunct professors of sociology, walked along Birchmont Drive holding placards demanding equal pay for equal work. According to literature they provided, the walkout is designed to shed light on the "destructive effects 'adjunctification' is having" on campuses throughout the United States.
BEMIDJI -- Most area high schools are above the state average in graduation rates, but there still is room for improvement. Minnesota had a four-year graduation rate of 81.2 for 2013-14, according to data released Tuesday from the Minnesota Department of Education. Bemidji High School's rate eclipsed the state average with 83. 2 percent but that was a slight dip from the BHS rate of 85.8 in 2013.
