Kat's Book Nook has been a foster home for cats through the Beltrami Humane Society for three years, having first brought Baylynn to its premises in 2011. Now, there is Katniss, a beautiful soft cat who is believed to be about 3-years-old. "She's an amazing cat," said Katrina Kaplan, who opened Kat's Book Nook in 2010. Cats and bookstores go hand-in-hand, Kaplan said, noting that, historically, bookstores frequently had their own felines on site to keep the mice away.

BEMIDJI -- Discussion regarding the date and time of Bemidji High School's graduation this spring is expected to continue Monday during the regular meeting of the Bemidji School Board. The meeting will begin earlier than usual as the board will convene at 5 p.m. due to to the Bemidji High School holiday choir concert that at 7:30 p.m. that same evening at the BHS auditorium. The School Board meets in the boardroom at district headquarters in the Downtown Education Center, 502 Minnesota Ave.
BEMIDJI -- School administrators on Tuesday said normalcy is returning at Bemidji High School following two days' worth of heightened security. What started as name-calling between members of two student groups escalated last week, prompting the district to increase security at the high school and Bemidji Middle School. "Any time there is a threat, and we think that there is any credibility at all, we have to go and check it out, to make sure that things are going to be safe for the kids and for the staff," said Jim Hess, superintendent of Bemidji Area Schools.
