BEMIDJI -- The Bemidji School Board is expected Monday to consider an agreement to list Deer Lake Elementary for sale. The agenda for the regular meeting, which begins at 6:30 p.m. at district headquarters at 502 Minnesota Ave.
BEMIDJI -- Parents are being urged to look beyond the "back-to-school" aisles as they prepare to send children off for a new school year in a few weeks. New immunization rules have taken effect and some students may need to get additional shots before they are able to start class. "The biggest changes really are for the seventh-graders," said Emily Bakken, district nurse for Bemidji Area Schools. Seventh-graders are now required to be vaccinated against meningococcal, which can lead to meningitis.

BEMIDJI -- Planning for the fall referendum is moving ahead. The Bemidji School Board met in a work session Thursday evening to discuss referendum planning, specifically ways to cultivate a successful fall campaign by clearly communicating with the public. Bemidji Area Schools will ask voters in the Nov. 4 election to authorize funds to construct and operate a new school.

BEMIDJI -- It is estimated 650 residents of Beltrami County have dementia. There are 5,837 people aged 65 or older in Beltrami County, according to 2012 estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau, and statistics indicate one in nine people in that age group have dementia.
BEMIDJI -- A jet gleams on the tarmac, representing the next step in business for Bemidji Aviation. The company, founded in 1947, was purchased by Larry Diffley and Mark Shough in 1970 with three employees and three planes. Diffley and Shough brought with them their own Cessna 150, bringing the total fleet at the time to four. That fleet now stands at 43, plus the new jet recently made available to its customers.
