Don Lucia has resigned as men’s hockey coach at the University of Minnesota, the school announced. Lucia, 59, coached the Gophers to NCAA championships in 2002 and 2003, and his 457 victories over 19 seasons are the most in program history. He was slated to earn $612,500 next season, the final year of a two-year contract he signed in October 2016. The school scheduled a new conference with Lucia and athletics director Mark Coyle for 4:30 p.m.
The NFL will award its Most Valuable Player award on Saturday night, but there might have been a spoiler alert at Thursday’s Super Bowl press conferences in the Twin Cities. An official was spotted carrying an acceptance speech for New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady in plain view as Brady wrapped up his 45-minute media session. Of course, it could have been just preparation in case Brady does win the award, but he is considered a front-runner.
