SISSETON, S.D. -- A former executive board member of a district in the Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate Tribe has been sentenced to 10 months in federal prison for embezzlement. U.S. Attorney for South Dakota Randy Seiler said Carrie Godfrey, 52, of the Big Coulee District was sentenced in federal court Thursday and also ordered to pay restitution of $31,640, to pay a fine of $3,000, and to serve three years of supervised release after serving her prison sentence.
BISMARCK — With livestock producers sorely in need of hay for their animals in drought-stricken areas of North Dakota, South Dakota and Montana, the North Dakota Department of Agriculture is looking for hay donations and truckers to move the hay. Already 840 livestock producers have applied on the website for hay from what's being called the "Hay Lottery." With the huge number of applications, the department has decided to do a lottery. Each producer selected in the lottery will get a semi-load of hay in the lottery on Sept. 1.

DULUTH, Minn. -- All Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar locations in Minnesota will remain open, the corporate franchisee said Monday. The announcement followed news that up to 135 Applebee’s restaurants will be shuttered across the country this year. The franchisee has about 50 restaurants in Minnesota and western Wisconsin.
STURGIS, S.D. -- Fatal and serious injury accidents increased substantially at the 77th annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally compared to last year, according to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety. On the last day of the rally on Saturday, two deaths were reported raising the death toll to eight for the nine-day event, up from three deaths last year.
STURGIS, S.D. -- A 27-year-old man driving a vehicle on U.S. Highway 16 seven miles west of Custer died Thursday, Aug. 10, in what was the sixth fatal crash of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally this year. The man, whose 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan rolled in the ditch, had three other passengers in the vehicle in the 7:10 a.m. crash with one suffering life-threatening injuries.
STURGIS, S.D. -- The number of deaths in the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally has reached five after an 80-year-old motorcyclist died Wednesday, Aug. 9, from his injuries in an earlier accident and two women died in separate accidents.
WATERTOWN, S.D. --- Two more men have pleaded guilty to a blackjack table cheating conspiracy at the Dakota Sioux Casino near Watertown in northeast South Dakota. Lito Banbilla Bolocon, 44, and Jordon Anthony Rondell, 29, appeared last week before U.S. District Judge Charles B. Kornmann in Aberdeen and pleaded guilty to the charge of conspiracy involving theft by employees of a gaming establishment on Indian lands. Jeremy Kris Brown, 43, pleaded guilty to that same count on May 1.
STURGIS , S.D. -- A 27-year-old motorcyclist died at sundown Tuesday night on Interstate 90 near Sturgis in only the second fatality of this year’s nine-day rally. The man from Fort Wayne, Indi., was eastbound on the interstate about seven miles east of Sturgis about 9 p.m. when he lost control, laying the motorcycle on its side, said the South Dakota State Patrol. He was not wearing a helmet and died from his injuries.
