ST. PAUL -- Minnesota firearms hunters registered 161,057 deer through the third weekend of deer season, according to the Department of Natural Resources. Preliminary results through the third weekend show that the number of deer registered was up 16 percent from 2016. Of the deer harvested, 53 percent were bucks, compared to 63 percent during the same period in 2016.
GRAND FORKS -- An airman assigned to Grand Forks Air Force Base has been arrested and charged with sexually assaulting a woman at his Grand Forks apartment last month. Karim Sabur Kabir Muhammad, 22, has been charged with gross sexual imposition, a Class A felony, for allegedly engaging in sexual intercourse with an intoxicated and incapacitated woman on Oct. 8.
BRITTON, S.D. -- TransCanada Corp has shut down part of its Keystone pipeline after an estimated 210,000 gallons, or 5,000 barrels, of oil leaked in far northeast South Dakota early Thursday morning, Nov. 16. The company said the spill occurred on private agricultural land near Amherst and Britton, S.D., which is about 35 miles northeast of Aberdeen and about 20 miles south of the North Dakota border.
ST. PAUL -- The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is hosting a veteran employment seminar Jan. 3 in St. Paul, noting that many veterans want to work in a natural resources environment and many military skills translate into DNR positions. “If you’ve served in the military, you probably have a lot of experience in many of our professional areas,” said Don Matthys, DNR management resources regional supervisor and a retired Army veteran.

Preliminary results through the second weekend show that the number of deer registered was up 10 percent from 2016. There were 70,724 deer taken during the first weekend and 74,330 this past weekend.
COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. -- Thursday, Nov. 9, marked 15 years since the disappearance of St. Johns’s University in Collegeville in central Minnesota. Joshua Guimond, 20 at the time, was last seen by friends at a social gathering on campus on Nov. 9, 2002. He reportedly left the gathering during the late evening hours that day. The next night, he was reported missing by some of his collegiate friends.
MINNEAPOLIS -- Minneapolis City Council member Jacob Frey, 36, was announced as the winner of the Minneapolis mayoral race on Wednesday afternoon. Frey defeated incumbent Mayor Betsy Hodges and 14 other candidates in Tuesday's election and will take office in January.
MINNEAPOLIS -- City Councilor Jacob Frey was leading in the race for Minneapolis mayor on Tuesday night, Nov. 7. If he wins, he would replace incumbent Betsy Hodges, who was running again, but lagging in third place with 18 percent of the vote. In second place was Tom Hoch with 19 percent of the vote. Frey had 25 percent.
