FARGO -- Classic rockers Def Leppard and Journey announced Friday, Jan. 19, that they are teaming up for a North American tour that in this region will take them to Sioux Falls, Minneapolis and Fargo. The two will perform together in 58 cities on the tour starting May 21 on the east coast. The regional concerts are at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls on Wednesday, July 18, at Target Field in Minneapolis on Friday, July 27, and at the Fargodome in Fargo the next day.
MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources on Thursday, Jan. 18, announced the state has approved changing the name of Lake Calhoun in Minneapolis to Bde Maka Ska. The DNR’s decision follows a Hennepin County Board resolution requesting the change.
ST. PAUL — A record number of Minnesotans have signed up for health insurance coverage through the state’s MNsure program. The program said Wednesday, Jan. 17, that 116,358 residents have enrolled in the individual market from Nov. 1 to Jan. 14, breaking the previous year’s record of 114,810.
ROCHESTER, Minn. --- A 25-year-old Rochester man is being held in jail after he shot and killed a teenager after the two were in a vehicle crash over the weekend in the southern Minnesota city. Alexander William Weiss is being held on probable cause for second degree after he shot Muhammed Rahim, 17, also of Rochester, in the chest, police said. Weiss told police it was in self-defense.
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The Zac Brown Band is coming to the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls this summer, with tickets going on sale next Friday, Jan. 19. The Sioux Falls stop will be the second city on the band’s new 27-date tour on Saturday, June 9. The band will also have a concert later in the summer, Aug. 10, at Target Field in downtown Minneapolis.
ST. CLOUD, Minn. --- When a 23-year-old Burnsville, Minn., man called for a sober driver after his arrest for a DWI earlier this week in St. Cloud, Nathan Henning's father from Brooklyn Center arrived. The Stearns County jail staff then do what they always do. They checked the driver, this time being Richard Henning, 54, with a voluntary breath test for alcohol.
SIOUX FALLS, S.D.—One of the suspects accused of being connected to a double murder in Sioux Falls has been arrested in neighboring Minnesota. Sioux Falls police reported Thursday night, Jan. 11, that Maria Shantel LeClaire, wanted on a $500,000 cash bond for being an accessory to first-degree robbery, was found in eastern Minnesota in the city of Red Wing. Police said a citizen saw the 27-year-old Leclaire and notified local law enforcement. She was taken into custody without any problems and is being held at the Goodhue County Sheriff's Office.
SIOUX FALLS, S.D.—A 63-year-old Canadian woman is the second person to enter a guilty plea regarding a scheme to defraud consumers by selling light-emitting devices as a treatment for more than 200 different diseases and disorders, the Department of Justice announced Thursday, Jan. 11. Irina Kossovskaia, of Ontario, Canada, pleaded guilty in federal court in Sioux Falls on Wednesday to one count of conspiracy to introduce misbranded medical devices into interstate commerce with the intent to defraud and mislead.
ST. PAUL—With almost 1,800 flu-related hospitalizations and nearly 100 outbreaks in schools and nursing homes, the Minnesota Department of Health reported Thursday, Jan. 11, that it could potentially be a severe flu season. The department said as the flu season climbs toward its peak, residents can still get flu vaccines and it's not true, despite rumors, that the vaccine isn't effective this year. In the report Thursday, the department said flu activity is showing a continued increase across the state.
ST. PAUL -- As far as family friendliness goes, Minnesota is near the top in the nation, according to a study by a financial website. A study by WalletHub listed Minnesota as these second best place to raise a family, behind only Massachusetts.
