EDEN PRAIRIE (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings have a better idea about how to finish preparing Adrian Peterson and his surgically repaired left knee for the season. The plan, simply, is more practice. Coach Leslie Frazier said Tuesday his change of mind about handing the ball to his recovering star running back in a preseason game. Frazier originally said he wanted Peterson to experience the full contact of such a setting before the real season begins, but he has backed off. Peterson actually agreed this time.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Stephon Tull was looking through dusty old boxes in his father's attic in Chattanooga a few months ago when he stumbled onto something startling: an audio reel labeled, "Dr. King interview, Dec. 21, 1960."
EAGLE LAKE (AP) — The head football coach at Minnesota State, Mankato, is in custody on charges related to child pornography. Todd Hoffner was booked into the Blue Earth County Jail on Tuesday afternoon. He has not been formally charged, and it was not immediately clear whether he had an attorney. His home phone number is disconnected. The Mankato Free Press reported authorities were at Hoffner’s Eagle Lake home Tuesday. Eagle Lake Police Chief Phil Wills told the newspaper he couldn’t comment.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — There's a reason Wisconsin is called the cheese capital of America. The Badger State produced 227 million pounds of cheese in June. That was one-fourth of the nation's cheese production that month, and a 2 percent increase over the state's production in June of last year.

EDEN PRAIRIE (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings tied for the league lead last season in sacks, so opposing quarterbacks should’ve been flustered into forcing plenty of bad throws that the secondary could take the other way. But rarely did that happen against this depleted group of defensive backs. The Vikings matched the NFL’s worst interception total in 2011. “I don’t know the exact number we had last year,” cornerback Antoine Winfield said. Eight. “That’s it?” Winfield said, shaking his head. “That’s pretty low.”
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Phyllis Diller, the housewife turned humorist who aimed some of her sharpest barbs at herself, punctuating her jokes with her trademark cackle, died Monday morning in her Los Angeles home at age 95.
