BEMIDJI – A year after recording its first 10-win season since 2007, the Bemidji State softball team opens its 2013 campaign today in St. Paul against Northern State and MSU-Moorhead. The team will play four games in St. Paul this week before playing four more games on March 1 and 2 in the Kelly Lass Memorial Invitational in St. Cloud. Of the first eight games of the non-conference season, six will be played against NSIC opponents. “We play many teams that are ranked right around us in the conference early on,” senior Crystal Bowen said.
BEMIDJI – Last season the Bemidji State baseball team had its third-best season in school history and missed the playoffs by one game. The Beavers finished 23-27 overall and 16-20 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. MANKATO – The Bemidji State women opened their tough weekend on the road with a 69-59 loss to Minnesota State Friday in Mankato. Although the Beavers (10-11, 4-11 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) trailed just 31-27 at halftime, the Mavericks (15-4, 11-5 NSIC) scored the first nine points of the second half to establish a 40-27 lead after just three minutes of play in the second half and were able to hold on for the victory. BEMIDJI – The Bemidji girls basketball team led from start to finish in its 60-35 win over Brainerd Tuesday at the Bemidji High School gymnasium. Baskets from Jess Yost and Greta Steever put the Lumberjacks ahead 18-9 with 10:20 left in the first half. Yost posted a double-double with 14 points and 15 rebounds.
