Cake fundraiser brings in $2,000

Bemidji Brewing Co. and the United Way of Bemidji are teaming up to “Spread the Love” on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Members of the United Way will help serve pints with $1 from every sale going to the United Way. Special snack paddles from area business will be available each night.

Connie and Mike Miller find an empty bench along Beltrami Avenue to enjoy their pizza as part of Pizza Day for United Way, which was hosted by Dan and Heidi Boyd at Paul Bunyan Broadcasting. The fundraiser served 160 pizzas and raised more than $2,500 for the United Way of Bemidji Area. They topped last year’s record of 118 pizzas; this year there were actually 121 pre-orders. United Way of Bemidji Area volunteers spell out the total raised in the 2012 campaign in the red-and-black style of Paul Bunyan, whose 75th birthday was celebrated all year in 2012. The $406,248.62 in funds raised exceeded the goal of $405,000.
