The average temperatures for January in Blackduck is around 14° however the temps rose to 39° according to the clock at Deerwood Bank. The average low for this time of year is around -8°. The high Jan. 5 was recorded at around 42°. Not quite record temps but much warmer than is usually experienced at this time of year. New Year's weekend saw a little over four inches of heavy wet snow fall but with the high temps, the snow was quick to melt away.

For more than 15 years, Jeff and Sherry Wizner have owned and operated Countryside Restaurant in Blackduck. the Wizner's bought the restaurant from Jacqueline Erpelding Hall in 1997 and have sold the business to Andy, Walt and Connie Thienes. It is not unusual to see everyone enjoying a delicious meal before local sporting events, thanks to the local booster clubs. They are available to the public from 4:30 p.m. until just prior to the games on the evenings of most home games for a reasonable price. Some boys basketball boosters provide a quick meal to team members before they dress for the game.
