MOORHEAD -- The Bemidji High School wrestling team picked up a pair of wins over Moorhead and St. Cloud Tech on Friday in Moorhead, topping the Spuds 54-17 and the Tigers 39-20.
Securing pins against Moorhead were Seth Newby (106, 0:16), Bryce Golden (113, 0:34), Nate Golden (138, 3;49), Chance Hinrichs (152, 8:29) and Justin Nelson (195, 3:54), while Jon Solum earned a 19-3 tech fall in the 132-pound bout and Darren Roth (126) and Colton Hinrichs (145) picked up major decision victories.
The Spuds forfeited the last two matchups to Hunter Schoenborn (220) and Kaleb Beam (285) to bring the score to 55-17.
In their other dual, Newby and Golden started things off with two quick pins, and Cale Newby extended the lead to extend the lead to 17-0 with a tech fall win at 120 pounds.
From there, wins from Solum (fall, 1:05), Nate Golden (12-4 major decision), Chance Hinrichs (6-3 decision), Nic Geiger (7-5 decision), Peter Moen (10-9 decision) and Beam (2-0 decision) handed the Jacks the 39-20 win.
The win over the Tigers was a big one for Bemidji because it was not only against an opponent that was higher than them in the Section 8-3A standings, but it was also head coach Rance Bahr’s 150th career dual victory.
The Lumberjacks hope to keep the wins coming when they face Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton and Little Falls at DGF on Friday, Feb. 9.
