WRESTLING: Bemidji freshmen head to state
BEMIDJI -- The Bemidji High School freshman wrestling team will compete in the Minnesota 9th Grade and Under State Team Tournament this Saturday, Jan. 20, in Hastings, after its second-place finish at a regional tournament.
Bemidji sent 14 wrestlers to compete in the regional tournament in Mahnomen last Saturday and finished second as a team to advance to state, where the team hopes to improve on its second-place showing a year ago.
Individual champions at regions were Riley Farris and Dane Jorgensen; second -place finishers were Robby Strand, Thade Osborn and Tyrese Smith; third-place finishers were Darren Roth, Jason Snidow, Will Faldorf and Caleb Bahr; Barrick Nelson finished fourth; Owen Seitz, Noah Leffelman and Dylan Headbird finished fifth; and Jack Solum finished seventh. Farris, Jorgensen, Strand, Osborn and Smith also earned the right to compete at the 9th Grade and Under State Individual Tournament on Feb. 3.
