TRACK AND FIELD: Stewart, Adams break school records
DULUTH -- Freshmen Venice Stewart and Cheri’A Adams broke a pair of records for the Bemidji State women’s indoor track and field team on Saturday at The Opener in Duluth.
Stewart ran the 60 meter dash in 7.81 seconds, topping both the field and the BSU record of 7.88, which was set by Taylor Sautbine in 2013. Adams, meanwhile, set the new standard with a 36-feet-9.75-inch jump in the triple jump, beating Ashley Spolarich’s 2005 record of 35-11.
Stewart’s first-place finish in the 60m dash was complemented by her second-place time of 25.81 in the 200m dash, where Jada Barker also took seventh at 27.03. Adams also came in second with her triple jump performance, while Analise Fabre locked up a sixth-place finish at 33-2.
Elsewhere for the Beavers, Genavieve Baklund had a personal-best 38-6.25 in the shot put for third, and Samantha Tobeck set her own best with a 47-11.75 in the weight throw.
Libby Christenson and Cassidy Ziegler each posted a 4-9 in the high jump, tying for fourth. Brittny Hillstrom rounded out the top-five finishes for Bemidji State, finishing the 800m run in 2:32.63, good for fifth.
The Beavers will return to action on Jan. 13 for its own Super 8 Open at the Gillett Wellness Recreation Center at BSU.
