BEMIDJI -- The Bemidji State tennis team opened the 2018 season with a 9-0 sweep of Minnesota Crookston at the Gillett Wellness Center on Sunday afternoon.
The Beavers scored three 8-0 victories in doubles to start the match with a 3-0 lead before earning six straight-set singles victories, dropping only five games during the entire match.
The doubles pairings of Hannah Alme and Brooke Mimmack, Rachel Will and Breann Walsh, and Hannah Johnson and Jacki Damberg, all picked up 8-0 victories for BSU. After not losing a single game during doubles, the Beavers swept singles play with three players -- Brooke Mimmack, Hope Johnson, and Breann Walsh -- not losing a single game.
Hannah Peterson played her first match as a Beaver, winning 6-1 and 6-1 over UMC’s Hanna Ruckheim at number four in singles play. Damberg and Will also made their Beaver debuts in doubles play.
BSU will next travel to Grand Forks, N.D., to take on Upper Iowa at 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, and Winona State at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 11.
