SWIMMING: Hendricks, Munter punch ticket to state
ALEXANDRIA -- Bemidji High School juniors Sam Hendricks and Cameron Munter will represent the Lumberjacks at the Class A state swimming and diving meet March 1-3 after a successful weekend at the Section 5A meet Friday and Saturday.
Hendricks finished second in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:02.76 in order to advance, while Munter took third in diving with 409.65 points.
Hendricks’ finish was just over a second behind Spencer Van Beck of Melrose, but his preliminary time of 4:59.88 was the fastest of the weekend. Additionally, Hendricks took fourth in the 200 freestyle race (1:50.92) and helped the 200 and 400 free relay teams to seventh and fifth, respectively.
Munter finished behind Fergus Falls junior Caleb Neubauer’s score of 423.05 and Park Rapids junior Spencer Fritze’s 423.85.
Luke Yartz, a BHS junior, took seventh individually in the 200 free (1:55.25) and was a part of the 200 and 400 free relay squads.
Hendricks and Munter will compete at the state meet, which spans Thursday-Saturday, March 1-3, at Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center at the University of Minnesota.
