No white Christmas, but a white December

Maybe there was no white Christmas in 2011, but enough snow fell in the early morning hours Wednesday to mark the date.

On a 3 a.m. drive from Bemidji to Erskine, the snow started as a few flakes in downtown Bemidji and picked up along Highway 2. Snow swirled amid holiday decorations and street lights in Bagley, where the quiet downtown streets lay pure white and untouched. Much of the rest of the route called for slower driving speeds as the highway became obscured.

The National Weather Service in Grand Forks predicts a chance of snow in Bemidji today, with snowfall more likely tonight, mainly before midnight, so it may be time to get the shovels and boots out again.
