Boys tennis: Bemidji bounces back to stop Grand Rapids 5-2

GRAND RAPIDS -- After falling to Moorhead and Brainerd in its past two outings the Bemidji boys tennis team snapped its losing streak Thursday with a 5-2 victory at Grand Rapids.

The Lumberjacks took three of the four singles matches and claimed two of the three doubles battles.

"It was really great to see the guys bounce back today after yesterday's tough loss," BHS head coach Mark Fodness said. "Everyone really stepped up and came up with some key wins."

Fodness tinkered with his lineup and his athletes took advantage of their opportunities.

"We agreed prior to the match that we'd move some players around to give them experience for the individual section tournaments that take place next week," he said. "This provided some great experience for our players and it resulted in some really impressive play in doubles."

Evan White was a winner at second singles, Rocky Copiskey won at third singles and Spencer Konecne posted a 6-3, 6-1 triumph at fourth. Robert Treuer handled the first singles chores and fell 6-3, 6-1.

Noah Holter teamed with Matt Hokanson for a three-set victory at first doubles and the third singles duo of Garrett Atteberry and Nick Schultz posted a three-set triumph at third.

At second doubles Sam Howard and Kole Pankow fell in straight sets.

Bemidji (9-2) will close its regular season today at Park Rapids where they will tangle with the host team and Fergus Falls.
