Bemidji volleyball team hosts Alexandria in section tournament opener

The postseason begins today for the Bemidji volleyball team as the Lumberjacks will entertain Alexandria in a 7 p.m. contest.

BHS earned the third seed in the North Sub-Section 8-3A while the Cardinals are seeded sixth. The Lumberjacks are 20-8 and among the victories was a 25-21, 25-20 win over Alexandria two weeks ago during the Alexandria Invitational.

The Cardinals are 8-19.

Fergus Falls was given the top seed in the North while Moorhead was ranked second. BHS and the Spuds tied for the second position as each was awarded 13 points in the coaches' poll but Moorhead owned the tie-breaker as it defeated Bemidji a month ago.

Brainerd was awarded the fourth seed while St. Cloud Apollo was ranked fifth, Alexandria sixth and Detroit Lakes seventh.

The South Sub-Section ratings see Monticello first, St. Cloud Tech second, Sauk Rapids third, Sartell fourth, Rocori fifth and Big Lake sixth.

Today's other section openers see Detroit Lakes visiting Moorhead, Rocori heading to Sartell, Sauk Rapids entertaining Big Lake and Brainerd hosting St. Cloud Apollo.

If the Lumberjacks win tonight they will battle the Detroit Lakes-Moorhead winner on Friday at the home of the higher seed. The section semifinals are set for Nov. 1 at the higher seeds and the championship match will be Nov. 4 at a neutral site.
