Erin Booth scored a goal and added two assists to lead the Bemidji girls soccer team to a 4-0 victory over Walker-Hackensack-Akeley Saturday in the Lumberjacks' home opener.

Saturday's win came off the heels of Friday's 7-0 triumph at Little Falls. The competition is expected to improve Tuesday, however, as BHS visits Detroit Lakes in a rematch of last year's Section 8A quarterfinal battle which the Lakers won 2-1 in a shootout.

"It's nice to start the year 2-0. These wins will help us prepare for the rest of the season," said Lumberjacks coach Kelly Schoonover.

Saturday's contest was more one-sided that the score would indicate. Bemidji dominated in all facets, outshooting the Wolves 24-2 and owning a distinct territorial edge.

Were it not for the contributions of WHA goalie Jessica Gapinski, the home team could have at least doubled its goal total.

The Jacks did beat Gapinski twice in each half. At the 12-minute mark Erin Booth weaved her way to the top of the box and sent a shot past Gapinski. Josie Spry upped the cushion to 2-0 at the 27-minute mark when she converted a crossing pass from Caitlin Blotske.

BHS goalie Casey Palmer was called upon for only one save in the stanza. She also needed only one save in the second half to preserve her second straight shutout.

Emily Boyer opened the second-half scoring 15 minutes into the period when she found an opening inside the left post from close range. Blotske capped the scoring with a minute to play when she outhustled a WHA defender to the ball and directed it past Gapinski.

"We want to be the first to the ball on every play and we did that during these first two games," Schoonover said. "It's great to see how well the girls are working together. We want to do that again at Detroit Lakes and the girls are excited to go there and redeem ourselves for last year's loss."
