BHS girls golf: Phelps in hunt for state berth
A return trip to the state girls golf meet is within the reach of Bemidji's Meg Phelps as the Lumberjacks senior shot 89 during Thursday's opening round of the Section 8-3A tournament at Long Prairie.
Phelps is tied for fifth after Thursday's round and the top five golfers not on the winning team will head to the state meet.
St. Cloud Apollo holds the team lead after shooting 364 Thursday.
Alexandria finished at 367, St. Cloud Tech 371 and Buffalo 377.
Bemidji missed the second-day cut as it placed seventh at 401.
"I think if Meg can shoot another 89 she'll probably make it to the state," said BHS coach Jeff Nelson. "There are only four girls ahead of her after the first day and one of them is a girls from Apollo."
Phelps was the lone Lumberjack to break 100 Thursday. Katelin Craft finished at 101, Kelsey Isaacson shot 103, Erin Buckanaga 108, Amy Frosaker 116 and Hailey Hinners 118.
