BHS boys golf hosts Invite Monday

The Bemidji boys golf team will make its only home appearance of the spring Monday when the Lumberjacks stage their 21-team invitational at the Bemidji Town and Country Club.

The event is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start.

Joining the three BHS teams will be Detroit Lakes, Staples-Motley, Moorhead, Roseau, Pequot Lakes, Grand Rapids, East Grand Forks, Crookston, Thief River Falls, Lake of the Woods, Wadena-DC, Warroad, Greenway, Fosston, Blackduck, Walker-Hackensack-Akeley and Warren-AO.

The smaller schools are excited to play in the event because the country club will be the site of the Section 8A meet later this month.

"The kids are chomping at the bit to play on their home course," said BHS coach Seth Knudson. "We know the yardage, we know how the greens break and the country club is one of the nicest courses we play."

Saturday the Lumberjacks played their second round at the par-72 Village Green in Moorhead as part of the Fargo North Invitational.

The Jacks shot 313 Friday and 327 Saturday for a 36-hole total of 640.

Elliott Leinen fired a 75 on Saturday while Kodi Craft shot 82, Jordan Manick and Zack Rickers 85, Jake Hoffman 88 and Kaleb Hanson 89.

Bemidji's girls team was fifth of 16 teams Saturday at the Virginia Invitational which was held at The Quarry at Giants Ridge.

Grand Rapids won with 348 while BHS shot 391.

Tabatha Kunst of Duluth East was the medalist with a 75 on the 36-37-73 layout.
