Jacks tennis team sweep singles in win at Detroit Lakes

The Bemidji boys tennis team swept the singles and captured two of the three doubles matches on way to a 6-1 victory Tuesday at Detroit Lakes.

The Lakers rested their hopes on the doubles matches, hoping to win all three and try to steal a victory or two in singles. But BHS had other ideas.

"Detroit Lakes' strength was its doubles teams," said Lumberjacks coach Mark Fodness. "But we played very well at all three doubles matches and in singles we didn't let Detroit Lakes off the hook. We took care of business."

At first doubles Adam Holter and Kyle Fodness outlasted Jess Meyer and Isaac Bondrick 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (7-5). Bemidji also won at third doubles as Tim Poulus and Zach Hewitt nipped Collin Harris and Tom Warweg 6-1, 3-6, 6-4.

Bemidji's lone defeat came at second doubles where Jack Boyer and Craig Lindseth fell 6-4, 6-2.

In singles action Levi Rickert posted a 6-3, 6-1 win, Alex Hess won 6-3, 6-2, Matt Hokanson collected a 6-2, 6-3 triumph and Noah Holter breezed to a 6-1, 6-

1 victory.

"It's so early in the season that I don't think any team or any player is at the top of their game," Fodness said. "But we played well Tuesday."

The Lumberjacks will learn more about their potential Thursday when they visit Thief River Falls which entered the week ranked fourth in the state Class A poll.
