Jacks girls golf team takes sixth at Brainerd meet

The Bemidji girls golf team finished sixth Thursday at the 14-team Brainerd Invitational which concluded Thursday with 18 holes at The Preserve Golf Course near Brainerd.

The meet opened with 18 holes at The Pines on Wednesday.

After carding a round of 392 at The Pines the Lumberjacks shaved 35 shots off that score Thursday when they finished at 357.

"We always play better at The Preserve," said Bemidji coach Jeff Nelson. "The kids putted better and hit the ball better.

"There are still plenty of things we have to work on but we played well Thursday," the coach added.

Detroit Lakes won the meet with rounds of 357-327-684 and Grand Rapids was second at 357-336-693.

Individually, Tabatha Kunst of Duluth East was the medalist as she shot 76-73-149 on the two par-72 courses.

Amy Frosaker paced the Jacks as the sophomore followed Wednesday's 94 with an 86 on Thursday for a 36-hole total of 180.

Meg Phelps finished at 97-84-181 and Katelin Craft shot 94-88-182.

Hailey Hinners had rounds of 107-105-212, Morgan Miller finished 119-99-218 and Savanna Hanson 124-111-235.

Emily Israelson of Staples-Motley, the daughter of former Bemidji Lumberjack Bill Isarelson, placed fourth at 81-79-160.

Bemidji returns to action Monday when it plays at the Staples-Motley Invitational at The Legacy near Brainerd.

The Bemidji girls junior varsity golf team finished fourth at Wednesday's nine-team field at the Detroit Lakes Invitational, shooting a 414.

Kelsey Isaacson paced BHS with a 98 and Megan Dondelinger shot 100. Kenzie Schultz finished at 107, Anna Muller 109, Mari Stocker 110 and Alyssa Johnson 111.
