Bemidji High School boys hockey team blanks Apollo 6-0

The winning ways continued for the Bemidji High School boys hockey team as the Lumberjacks dominated Apollo 6-0 Saturday in St. Cloud.

The victory upped Bemidji's overall record to 4-0-1 and the Lumberjacks will conclude their exhausting season-opening road swing Tuesday when they visit Warroad.

BHS will finally make its home debut Thursday when it hosts Thief River Falls at The Sanford Center.

"We had a lot of shots and kept peppering the net but you could tell that the guys were a little tired," said Bemidji coach Wade Chiodo. "When you open the season with five road games in 10 days being tired can be expected.

"But a win is a win and we'll take it."

As has been the custom this winter the Jacks came out firing and took early control with a pair of goals in the first five minutes.

Easton Halbert set the tone with his goal at 4:12 and Max Hazelton lit the lamp 47 seconds later.

Jordan Heller added a goal at 16:21 and BHS enjoyed a 3-0 lead after the first period.

Hazelton notched his second of the day 6:34 into the second stanza and Bemidji iced the victory when Will Bruestle scored 2:13 into the third and Jordan Heller tallied at 9:57.

Jeremiah Graves needed only 13 saves to earn the shutout while the Lumberjacks fired 49 shots at the Apollo net.

The junior varsity improved to 4-1 Saturday with a 4-1 victory at Apollo. Ryan Erickson and Zach Rickers each scored two goals for the Jacks.
