BHS roundup: Volleyball team goes 2-3 at tournament

The Bemidji High School volleyball team posted a 2-3 record at Saturday's Willmar Invitational, going 1-2 in pool play and 1-1 in the consolation championship bracket.

In their opener the Lumberjacks lost 25-15, 25-13 to Central Minnesota Christian. Jess Yost had five kills in the match.

Bemidji also dropped a 25-20, 25-17 decision to Willmar. Meghan Wannebo finished with 11 digs while Yost had a pair of solo blocks and Jenna Sagedahl 12 set assists. Kellie Morehouse and Yost each had four kills.

The Jacks entered the win column with a 25-22, 22-25, 15-8 victory over Renville County West. Wannebo finished with eight digs, Sagedahl 25 set assists, Yost 15 kills, two solo blocks and three assisted blocks and Allie Heifort 10 kills.

The 1-2 pool-play record moved Bemidji into the consolation bracket and the Jacks opened that portion of the invitational with a 25-14, 25-19 win over New London-Spicer.

Sagedahl contributed 19 set assists while Yost had 13 kills, Nicole McDonald two aces and Wannebo seven digs.

Bemidji had a rematch with Renville County West in its tournament finale and this time RCW posted a 25-14, 25-21 victory.

Myria Colley had a pair of blocks while Wannebo had 12 digs and McDonald 10 digs.

BHS will take a 10-10 record into Tuesday's home match against Moorhead.

Girls soccer team ends home schedule Monday

The girls soccer team will end its home campaign 5 p.m. Monday against Crookston. The regular season will conclude Thursday at Detroit Lakes.

The Lumberjacks (6-8) will begin their post-season play Oct. 12.

Bemidji is coming off Friday's 3-2 victory at Hillcrest Lutheran Academy, a game which saw the Lumberjacks rally from 1-0 and 2-1 deficits.

Josie Spry, Caitlyn Blotske and Erin Booth scored for Bemidji and Casey Palmer stopped seven shots in the BHS net.

Booth tallied the game-winner with a low shot from close range in the 73rd minute.

Earlier this fall the Jacks downed Crookston 4-1 on the road.

Boys soccer team to end regular season this week

With the home season ended the boys soccer team concludes its regular season Monday at East Grand Forks and Saturday at Moorhead.

The Jacks are 11-3-1 after their 1-0 win at Crookston last Thursday.

A month ago BHS nipped East Grand Forks 3-2 in an overtime contest in Bemidji.

After starting the year 0-2 the Lumberjacks are 11-1-1 in their last 13 games.

Cross country team heads to Thief River

Coach Ryan Aylesworth will give his varsity runners a rest and take his junior varsity athletes to Thief River Falls on Monday.

Joining the Prowlers and Jacks will be International Falls, East Grand Forks, Warroad, Trek North and Lake of the Woods.

Next Saturday the varsity athletes will compete at Alexandria.
