Earlier this month the Bemidji girls soccer team posted a 3-1 victory at Grand Rapids. Monday in Bemidji the two teams staged the rematch and BHS coach Kelly Schoonover was expecting the Lumberjacks to be in the hunt for a series sweep.

Grand Rapids, however, had other ideas.

"We did outshoot Grand Rapids but overall we didn't play very well at all," Schoonover said after her team lost 2-0.

"We started out slowly and waited until Grand Rapids scored before we reacted."

Neither team scored in the opening half but the Thunderhawks broke the duel with a goal at the 57-minute mark. The Thunderhawks kept Bemidji at bay the rest of the way and iced the victory with 12 minutes remaining when Evelyn Boss grabbed a loose ball just inside the box and scored into an open net.

Casey Palmer stopped seven shots in the Bemidji net while the Jacks fired 15 shots.

Last Saturday Bemidji lost 4-2 at St. Cloud Apollo. Maari Stocker and Erin Booth had Bemidji's goals while Andrea Hanson and Booth drew assists.

Monday's loss dropped the Lumberjacks to 5-8. They return to action Thursday at East Grand Forks. The game was originally scheduled for last week but was postponed to Thursday because of an all-day rain.

In Monday's preliminary Bemidji's junior varsity stopped Grand Rapids 4-2. Emily Boyer had a hat trick and Sara Ludlow scored the other goal. Whitney Morin stopped 13 shots.
