Bemidji HS boys golf: Jacks return to Nisswa

A return trip to The Pines near Nisswa awaits the Bemidji boys golf team today as the Lumberjacks participate in the prestigious Brainerd Invitational.

"This meet attracts many of the top teams in our section and throughout the state," said BHS coach Eric Niskanen. "If we play to our potential we could be around 310 and that score could challenge for a high finish," Niskanen added.

The Jacks have made significant progress this spring but are yet to reach their full potential, according to the coach.

"Golf is a strange sport," he said. "It's my players against the golf course. We are at the time in the season where we could use some low scores.

"A big part of scoring well is believing you can do it and this is the time of the season where you don't want to find yourself in unchartered territory. You don't want to become intimidated late in a great round because you haven't been there before."

Today's lineup will be similar to the one which made last weekend's trip to The Pines and The Preserve.

Joe Welle, Kevin Larson, Rylee Curb, Max Hazelton and Trey Dale will compete and the sixth member will be either Kaleb Hanson or Jake Hoffman.

"We are on the verge of playing to our potential," Niskanen said. "We have some very capable players and the kids are working hard. They are putting in the time and the effort. Now, we just have to put everything together."
