The Bemidji tennis team swept the doubles portion of Thursday's home meet against East Grand Forks but the Green Wave duplicated the feat in singles play and downed the Lumberjacks 4-3.

BHS coach Scott Engelstad established a lineup that he thought could win all of the doubles matches. But he was hoping that the Jacks could capture at least one singles match.

That didn't happen, however.

Adam Holter and Kyle Fodness combined for a 6-3, 6-3 victory at first doubles and the tandem of Justin Byers and Levi Rickert won 6-1, 6-0 at second.

The sweep was capped by the 6-1, 6-2 triumph at third doubles posted by Ben Kloha and Joey Wood.

BHS had a chance to win at third singles where Alec Hess won the first set and was tied 5-5 in the second. Hess, however, had to default the match because of injury and Blake Gaddie of East Grand Forks was declared the winner.

At first singles Ben Holter fell 6-2, 6-2 while Hayden Byers lost 6-4, 6-4 at second.

Tim Paulus also dropped his fourth singles match 6-0, 6-2.

Bemidji will return to the court 4:30 p.m. today when it hosts Brainerd.
