Jacks softball to host Little Falls in opener
Brad Takkunen isn't sure what will happen when his Bemidji High School softball team opens its campaign 4:30 p.m. today at home against Little Falls.
"We still have some things to figure out but I'm excited to see how the kids do. We'll put on the jerseys (today), play the game and see what happens."
The coach plans on experimenting with his lineup, including his pitching staff, because few positions are set.
"We've had three weeks to prepare and now it is time to put the kids into game situations and see what happens," Takkunen said.
"There are still spots open and the battles for those spots continue. With only three seniors we are a very young team and it is going to take us a while to figure everything out."
Today's goals for the players are to play hard, have fun and learn more about themselves and the team.
"There will be uncertainties because some of the players will be in positions they have never played before," Takkunen said. "I know we are going to make some mistakes. I just hope those mistakes are because of aggressive play.
"It's time for us to play and see what happens."
