Bemidji HS wrestling: Jacks net nine winners at Rick Lee Invitational

The Badger/Greenbush-Middle River Gators returned to the throne of the Rick Lee Wrestling Tournament Saturday, rallying late in the finals to shade defending champion Perham by seven points.

The two leaders dominated the field all day.

Perham sent nine wrestlers to the finals and BGMR seven .

The Gators had made up a 12 point deficit in the third and-fifth place matches.

BGMR ended with 228.5 points to 221.5 for Perham.

Aitkin took third at 163 with Royalton fourth at 135 and Bemidji fifth at 121.

Roseau Nashwauk-Keewatin-Greenway, Cloquet and BCLB trailed.

Five of the nine teams -produced a champion with BGMR getting five, Perham four, Aitkin and Bemidji two and Cloquet one.

Good day for Jacks

Bemidji had a good day for its diminished squad, blanking three weights but getting nine- place winners from its 11 wrestlers.

Jake Crosby won the 119 title with an 11-4 win over Perham's Brandon Lueders.

Corey Huber needed only 91 seconds to claim the 160 championship over Cody Palubicki of Perham.

Logan Crosbv yielded a late near fall to lose 5-2 in the 112 title-match to Sailor and Dale Norton was pinned in the final period of the 135 title match by Dalton Stevens of Aitkin who built a 5-2 lead on a near fall and takedown before scoring the pin.

Drew Peterson won his opening match at 140 before bowing to champion Jordan Chounard of Aitkin in the semifinals and reached the third place match on a bye before bowing on a second period fall.

LeRoy Pacheco was fourth at 152, pinned by Schmitz in the first round but winning his first wrestleback before bowing to TeJay Wojchowski of BGMR for third place.

Craig Maas took sixth place at 125 losing twice to Adam Jackson of Aitkin.

Kade Johnson was sixth at 130, losing in the first round but winning two wrestlebacks before bowing in his final two starts.

Alex Johnson was fifth at heavyweight, winning his first match on a fall before being decisioned by runner-up Cooper Blau of Aitkin

He lost his first wrestleback but beat Kellen Frank of Royalton 4-2 for fifth place..

Kodi Craft and Brenden Fredrickson were 0-2.

Bemidji was open at 103, 189 and 215.

Novacek of BGMR drew the Most Valuable Wrestler Award.

Perham retained its JV Division title with a 54-34 win over BLCB in the final after earlier wins over Bemidji and Royalton.

Royalton beat Aitkin for third with BGMR topping Cloquet for fifth and Roseau besting Bemidji for seventh.

The Jacks had only eight wrestlers, forfeiting six weights. Cody Thoring was one of a number of wrestlers who went 3-0 in the meet.
