Bemidji HS boys hockey team plays Warroad tough in loss
The Warroad Warriors scored twice in each period Tuesday night to hand Bemidji's Lumberjacks their second hockey loss in five starts 6-3 at the John Glas Fieldhouse.
The Section 8A champions were in control much of the game, out shooting Bemidji 32-21.
But Bemidji hung close throughout, trailing 3-2 midway through the second period before falling back.
Carson Gray and Brock Nelson scored twice for the winners. Steve Heller, Mike Rees and Jesse Nemgar had the Bemidji goals.
Warroad held a 10-5 shots advantage in the opening period, taking a 2-0 lead on goals by Gray and Aaron Rasmusson.
They made it 3-0 to open the second period on Nelson's first tally.
Bemidji then fought back, scoring twice on the power play, with Rees and Heller beating goalie Shawn Storey from close range.
But Warroad got one back on the power play before the period ended with Nick Stoskopf scoring.
Gray made it 5-2 late in the third stanza and Nelson added his second goal before Nemgar hit in the final 68 seconds off feeds from Isaac Bitter and Rylee Curb.
Storey ended with 18 saves. Miah Graves rejected 26 and was under fire much of the night as Warroad continually stormed the net.
The loss dropped Bemidji to 3-2 and lifted the Warriors to 5-1.
Bemidji won the B game 3-0 with another fine display. It marked the third shutout in five games for the Jacks who have allowed only three goals this year. Brandon Carlson needed only 17 stops on the night, 11 in the final period. Andy Foster had 41 saves for the Warriors.
