Bemidji HS volleyball beats Brainerd for 10th win

The Bemidji High volleyball team warmed to the task slowly Tuesday night but finished in high gear to down visiting Brainerd 3-0 at the field house.

Bemidji won 25-22, 25-15, 25-12.

It lifted the home team to 10-2 and dropped Brainerd to 2-4.

Bemidji travels to Roseau Thursday to complete its week.

It never trailed in the opener but allowed Brainerd to stay close for much of the first two games.

It jumped to a quick 10-4 lead, then allowed Brainerd to run five to come within one and later tie the score at 12-12.

A run of five behind Kelsey Heisler put the lead back at five. But Brainerd would not go away, fighting back to trail by a single point at 23-22 before Bemidji scored the final two points on Kayla Hirt spikes.

Hirt had seven kills to lead the way while Courtney Homer and Heisler had two. Brainerd had four of the seven faulty serves.

Bemidji out scored the losers 14-3 in earned points.

Game 2 was much the same through the early going with Brainerd leading by a point before scoring six with Brianna Thorson serving to go ahead 10-6. But it was ahead 11-9 before beginning to take charge, out scoring Brainerd 14-6 down the stretch. Strings of five behind Megan Wannebo and four with Brooke Homer serving did the damage

Bemidji held a 14-2 bulge in earned points with Jess Yost getting four and Hirt and Abby Hendricks three. Each team had three bad serves

The final game cam easier as Bemidji began wearing down the Warriors.

Most of the points came in small spurts before five with Wannebo serving upped the margin to 17-7.

At 19-12. Bemidji ran the final six points to end the evening.

Six different players had points in a nm 11-0 bulge in earned points. Hendricks led with four. Bemidji had only one service fault. Brainerd had three.

Brooke Homer had 32 assists to lead the team while Erika Weimann had 15 digs, and Hendricks and Brooke Homer 10.

Bemidji made it a complete sweep winning the JV contest 25-13, 25-19 to reach 5-2, snapping a two-game losing skid.

The B Team triumphed 25-12, 25-18 to get to 7-1 while the freshmen won 25-10, 25-10.

The frosh went 2-1-1 at Saturday's Park Rapids Invitational, beating Pine River 26-24, 26-24 tying Walker 25-23, 22-25 and beating Menahga 25-19, 25-14 in pool play before bowing to Nevis 25-10, 25-19 in the title game,.

With the Tuesday win they are now 5-2-2.
